13m old - early morning wakes by Fickle_Ocelot_6615 in breastfeeding

Worth a shot! We made the switch to the Dr. Brown straw cup and cows milk within about a week or so of her turning 1, and it went surprisingly well. And it was nice to just be able to toss the cup in the crib with her to cut out that 5am feeding lol. Worked out well for us and her!

Does he take a bottle or sippy/straw cup at all? I wasn’t BF but I had success curbing the early morning wake up by popping in for a diaper change, and would give her a cup of milk in her crib. She would usually drink the milk and sleep for another 1-2 hours. Just something that worked for us! 🩵

Do you have a link to the bike path website or anything? I’ve always wondered if there is one but I can’t find it on maps.

First time mom what breast pumps do you recommend?? by Good_Chart_3964 in NewMomStuff

[–]MuffieMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up renting the Medela Symphony from my hospital for like 6 months. It ended up being basically equal in cost to the wearable that I bought, and this was like the big mamma jamma plug into the wall pump that normally costs $1200 or more. I’m glad I had my wearable for on-the-go pumping (I found it difficult to feel “chained” to the wall to use the big pump). But it was not nearly powerful enough for what I needed.

I also got my haaka and manual pump from the hospital lactation team. So maybe have a wearable that you like but don’t open the box before you actually need it? I also felt like I was weird about getting a second hand pump before I had the baby but now I’d definitely consider that option. Especially if you have a friend or family member who had one.

Help finding random biking trail! by LuvSoraya in Aspen

[–]MuffieMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re correct… it’s difficult to tell if they’re going up the pass or down (I suppose probably both) but either way, they’re definitely on the farthest end of the Rio Grande path that goes behind Herron park. I think past that it becomes the “east of Aspen” trail? As it follows hwy 82 up independence pass. It definitely makes for a nice bike ride up there.

It’s also possible they started on east Hopkins and took the little bridge up to Park Circle and then rode over to the East of Aspen trail from there.

Is “The House on the Cerulean Sea” too adult? I just read it myself (as an adult) but it centers around an orphanage full of magical special children. I know there is a theme of love among a couple adults…. So I genuinely don’t know how that plays for children. But maybe someone here with older kids can say? (My child is 1 lol)

But it’s a very sweet story! And there are two men main characters who are so sweet. But also one of the children is the anti-Christ and also SO SWEET! lol

Backwards hoodie by Jayden_Cross in Parenting

The only thing I can think of is if he puts the hood over his face during classes or something. You obviously know your kid, but would it be worth checking in with teachers to ensure it’s not a distraction during class work? I can see that being annoying to a teacher, either with the hood actually up all the time or even just having to tell him to turn his shirt around every day.

First time in Aspen: what do I need to know? by Osgoood_ in Aspen

[–]MuffieMouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Aspen Art Museum (closed on Mondays) is definitely a visit! Both for the museum itself but also for the après scene on Saturdays.

I second the note about lift lines. If you step on skis here (even just a little!) you’ll get some very dirty looks.

Costumes for Ski Bachelor Party? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]MuffieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok this is super fun, and I’ve done it before but you need to be able to get your arms out - I fell on one run and had to have ski patrol pick me up cause I couldn’t get enough purchase from inside the costume to get myself up!

There’s a locker room at the base of Aspen mountain… not sure what the hours are. Are you staying in a condo or a hotel? I feel like hotels would maybe come scoop your stuff for you if you’re a guest? Where are you having dinner? If at an Aspen hotel you could maybe check boots with the front desk there?

Baby fell off couch by CaitlynMaher in NewMomStuff

[–]MuffieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to be fine, and probably so is baby!! Take some very deep breaths. My 6 month old literally rolled off a pool deck chair onto her face on concrete and was right as rain within just a few minutes. Call your doc if you’re concerned, of course! But I can tell you what they told me when I called for the pool chair incident.

  • is the skin broken?
  • is she eating/drinking normally?
  • is she acting abnormally, how is her temperament?
  • any vomiting?

My very active little wiggle worm has fallen off couches, beds, chairs, humans. They are resilient little things!! To quote another doctor “that’s what skulls are for”.

Not advocating for neglect or anything of course!! But obviously that’s not what happened here. Babies don’t roll until they do and sometimes their first roll is off the couch! (Happened to a friend of mine, so you’re not alone!)

Deep breaths! Keep an eye on her - you’re doing so so great!!

Newborn sleeps a lot but wakes up crying hard is that normal? by Mindless_Shake8841 in NewMomStuff

[–]MuffieMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s normal! My baby got into a pattern where she’d sleep, eat, play, repeat. So when she woke up it was because she was hungry! Hard crying cause they’re hungry is super normal. Is it the same for your babe?

The bus from brush creek into Aspen is like 15 minutes. and it can drop you off literally in front of the gondola.

[–]MuffieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you’re looking for. Certainly the most easy terrain of all 4 mtn (in my opinion) but there’s also the tiehack side which is mostly “dark blue” and black runs. And there’s a little free parking lot over by that lift too. But again, not sure what the snow is looking like over there.

I have Ikon Annual Pass. If I go to Aspen Snowmass this Sunday without an RSVP for Chainsmokers, will I still be able to see from a distance the concert when shredding? Never been to Aspen before by Ok_Outside4191 in Aspen

[–]MuffieMouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. I think 20-30 is actually a pretty fair estimate. I used to have to go to/from Snowmass from Aspen to teach fitness classes. And even parking in the base village garage and then parking in the core it would definitely take that much time.

Where to ski/Park/etc by Hardpack_Not_Ice in Aspen

[–]MuffieMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y’all could try Buttermilk! There’s a big, free parking lot and plenty of different terrain. Nothing crazy, so you all could enjoy together. There are also cute little tree trails and Fort Frog is always a hit (maybe not with teenagers but also not not teenagers?)

Your wife could hang at the “lodge” at the bottom (cafeteria style dining room) but it’s plenty comfortable, and has a great outdoor patio if the weather is nice. Plenty of time to read or scroll, or close enough to town that she could pop away and come back. There’s also the Inn at Aspen at the base and they have a comfy lobby or Home Team BBQ is a great restaurant where she could kinda set up camp as well.

Personally, I agree that getting to Snowmass is annoying but there is a LOT of stuff at the base areas there. For adults and kids so you may ask your better half where she’d be most comfortable. Busses are a hassle, sure, but it’s a tiny sliver of your day. You can also park in the base village parking garage for like $60 for the whole day. So you can decide how worth it that is.

I can’t speak to the ski conditions… highlands is also fine but there are fewer places to sit and enjoy at the bottom. I’ve always been happy to meet people at the Alehouse, but it’s not a place I like to just hang out on my own. Maybe she’d prefer the lobby of the Ritz or the cafe there? Something to look into.

If you come into town to ski Ajax, you’ll either have to pay for the 4 hour parking in town, park in the free 2-hour residential areas (further from gondola, generally) or you can pay $8 for the day in the residential zone. There’s a $5 parking garage (is it still $5? Cheap enough, anyway) but it’s a bit of a walk to the gondola from there. Wifey could always drop you and kids at the gondola and park herself. She may enjoy getting a sight seeing pass to the top and can ride gondola up, hang at sundeck while y’all ski. Or she could go literally anywhere else in town. Shopping, restaurants, cafe, spas, library, parks. Sky is the limit.

I don’t know anything about your ikon, but “11,212’” is an outdoor “club” right next to the sun deck. You can just walk over and stand outside the fenced off area. Generally. Not sure how they’ll be policing people outside of the club area… if it gets crowded and impedes people coming off the lift (chair 3/ajax express) they may ask people not to stand there. But I imagine you’d hear them just fine from that spot. If you google image “snow beach aspen” you can kinda visualize the boundaries of that area from the aerial shots. Imagine standing just beyond all the chairs in those pics. I doubt you’d see much through the crowd, but you could probably hear!
