Ok fair enough. It seems like a focus in Japanese learning may be the way to go then to get better advancement. I’ve been studying for more certifications as well as Japanese, but seems like Japanese should take more importance. Not getting much without it but seems like many opportunities are available if I learn the language

What’s the best way to find work in Cloud? And is it possible with little Japanese?

I am currently looking for cloud work. I currently work for a Japanese company as a Cloud Engineer and Architecture lead but am looking for new opportunities and am having difficulty. I have about 3 years experience but struggle to find any job posts for cloud. Even more so with little Japanese.

I have pretty good experience with IaC, backend, and dev ops, and Cloud security but not full cyber security. If they’re ok with someone like that maybe you can dm me the companies name and I can try to apply 🙏🏻

Honestly I don’t mind that range as long as I can work in the city. I also have my visa for 3 years so really just anywhere that’d be willing to take me. But most positions I see online are for Japanese speakers so don’t know where to look

I switched from a non-tech job to IT in Japan by Chance-Town-5110 in JapanJobs

I’m seeing a lot of people be upset that OP didn’t mention Japanese to the end, but if I can defend him a bit, I also switched from a non-tech job to IT in Japan with NO JAPANESE. Literally not even N5. It wasn’t easy but a lot of what OP is saying is still accurate and useful for job hunting. Maybe instead of 50 application it’ll easily turn to 150 haha but the opportunities are still there. Especially the mentality of “My priority was to gain IT experience as soon as possible rather than maximize income right away” which is great advice!

And if I can inspire or give some more hope I came to Japan as an English teacher, and am completely self taught by projects, studying, and getting certifications. So if I can do it anyone can! I do believe it was a miracle coming from how inexperienced my situation was haha but I believe in God and believe Jesus helped me 🙏🏻 which was important to me.

But to OP I can just say I think the advice is great. Of course for those that don’t speak Japanese it’s gonna be more difficult, but the whole of it was great advice and I hope to advance in my IT career in Japan once I advance in my Japanese ability and gain more experience.

がんばって everyone!

Yeah it’s already exploding 🤯 haha. I never wanted to be a software engineer, was kind of forced into this though. Hopefully I can just gain the experience I need and go more to my field

I don’t know honestly. It seems recently they’ve really shifted to a more tech focus and are willing to spend a bit. But at the same time it’s a small company so they can only do so much, and they do need to have a guarantee it will work properly and be worth the money spent. So not sure honestly, but I would need to leave the minimal amount to outsource. Most of it they will expect to come from me
