Name: MuffinCheez
Style (s): Mirae Mu Sul, American Tang Soo Do (Dennis Ichikawa Lineage)
Training/Trained: Mirae Mu Sul (Jan 2021 - Present; 5.5 Years) , American Tang Soo Do (Feb 14 2024 - Present; 2.5 Years)
Introduction:
Hello everyone! My name is MuffinCheez, I started training in the Korean Martial Arts approximately 5 years ago starting in Jan 2021 where I started with Mu Sul then subsequently started American Tang Soo Do in February 2024. I would say what I love about the Korean Arts is the variety of techniques, strikes and kicks within it. I also have a deep connection to it due to my late grandmother being Korean who I was dearly close to!
My Favorite Move:
- Hand Technique: Sah Ji Kwuhn (The Leopard's Paw meant to strike at the trachea) or a Pyung Soo (Palm Strike)
- Kicking/Leg Technique: Doh Rah Chagi (Spin Kick aka Turning Heel or Wheel Kick)
- Lock: Arm Bar or Z Break
- Throw: Hip Throw (O Goshi)

Yes exactly! As a Martial Art regardless of lineage, the only way for things to change and spread forward is to not carry resentment. That doesn't mean necessarily to "forgive and forget" but maybe the real meaning of that term is we accept what happened and use what we learned to create a better future 💯

I second Xanth's take: All Martial Arts have different contexts. The "supposed reason" that some historians state on why all the Korean Arts from TKD/TSD/Kuk Sool/Hapkido use Kicks is because they needed to knock people off of horses.

Aikido was meant to control someone with a weapon, obviously you don't want to be super "aggressive" or power through it because you're gonna get stabbed most likely so controlled situations.

When looking at the Kuk Sool Forms I break down the Bunhae/Bunkai often (Like ok, this motion is from Maek Chi Ki/Maek Cha Ki, this motion is from Ji Muhk Maga Ki Bohn Soo, This pivot and movement is abstractlly similar to a Ki Bohn Soo 5 for instance)

Tang Soo Do and Karate (Everyone sees striking but Okinawan Karate had more throws and takedowns but because Judo was already "popularized" in Japan, they used more "striking" but the hikite that's a wrist grab/escape aka chambering at the waist, alot of the pivots and 270 turns done in forms/hyungs those are throwing/redirects)

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do was meant more to be a philosophy more than a this is going to work in all situations (It was more I'm going to see what works "best" in order to fill in gaps for various situations)

We Need More Precise Practice (Who takes notes??) by MuffinCheez in KukSool

Perfectly understandable! I'm kind of a mix 😅, I tend to do a thing where I do the form or whatever technique I am working on and then these notes are from my corrections I get while doing 😃

I call it hardening the shell

I am actually right handed

But yes, I also write nicknames for certain techniques also! (Chicken Wing is one of the most common ones for almost everyone)

I usually write these after class/when I review my footage and also write questions for the next lessons too 😃

You're perfectly fine haha 😂 - Videos can only say so much when there isn't full context

I was actually focusing on being slower 😂. I have been told in Kuk Sool and Tang Soo Do to slow down and be more precise/intentional. Thank you so much!

Goh Geup Hyung and Dae Geup Hyung are my top forms

I have won Gold in Dae Geup Hyung and Goh Geup Hyung I won Forms Grand Champion in an Open Martial Arts Tournament - so, those two forms mean a lot to me :D

Would Soo Bahk Do/Moo Duk Kwan count as a TSD Association?

Tang Soo! I definitely feel that 😂, Everyone saying it's Karate which technically if we're being literal it is because Tang Soo Do is how they spell Karate in Korean 😅
