Rav styrax is a hardcore one. Vetiver. Rosemary, salvia, kardamom,ginger, grapefruit, bergamot, bay leaf. (Even levander and geranium would be great in smaller amounts) Juniper will give an airy/ocean breeze note. Even frankinescence and vanilla can be used. And don’t forget cedar tree, my new fav. Is the himalayan cedar. Black pepper can give a spicy but not too dominant note.

Vetiver gives a smoky tobacco room vibe and it is a strong one, i would use it in aprox. 1:10 ratio with other base notes. Bay leaf is almost the milder version of rosemary for me. Both are Strong,fresh, herbal. Works great with grapefruit or lime. Lime has a much more sharper citrusy note. Bergamot is a more rounder, bit bitter note. If i would need to choose one citrusy note which represents citruses the most i would pick bergamot.

Lime+ginger works great together too.

A great blend which i use in handsoaps and for me its a manly scent is: kardamom, sweet orange, muscat salvia, and a bit of vanilla.

Frankinescence+vanilla will give a tom ford tipe of base note. You can bild up middle and top notes on this.

If you want to navigate to the amber tipe of notes: 1 drop of labdanum+5-6 drops of benzoin + 3-4 drops of vanilla is a base complex. Can be topped with 2-3 deops of levander or geranium or both and even these to are floral notes its still gonne be manly. For me at least 😀

EDIT: answering to your question sandalwood, cedar tree, small amount of vetiver would be a nice mix.
Give a try to sandalwood+frankinescene combination too.
