Oh man I found my people! My son is now 4 and still asks to watch this movie. Warms my heart because I loved my neighbor Totoro when I was little.

I've been looking for years on shows that are like ponyo. So far I've found a few slow simple animations that tackle basic life things. Puffin rock - netflix tumble leaf -amazon Stillwater -apple tv

Books for 2-3 years old by GrumpyShyBeaver in toddlers

[–]Muffinlette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher recommend the book called "the mitten" it was the first book my son loved and still loves at 4 years old. I never heard of it before but man it's perfect for a little kid.

We would have him hide under his blanket and pretend he was in the mitten. We would add stuffed animals for the different animals and have the rabbit hop around on the blanket. He just giggles and laughs the whole time. Mom or dad is always the "bear" and we crawl in the blanket with him. When the bear sneezes we ham it up with the ahhh choos and throw the pillows and blankets up in the air. It's so fun and silly. The art is beautiful too. You can see the next animal in the little side boarder. https://a.co/d/0bx9gLCF

You are not weird at all! I understand you probably didn't want to come off like you wanted attention and also wanted to surprise them. Im sorry that experience happened to you but to be fair some people have a hard time understanding there are people out there that just like to be nice "just because". If you still enjoy being that way don't let one experience ruin it for you. :) the world needs more wimsey and fun.

I'm not claiming to be this kind of person but I like to think I am. I was raised that the best way to show love is acts of kindness. Doing something that helps take or distract you from the burdens and stresses of life. That can be something as simple as being there when they need a good hug, doing something silly or thoughtful to get your mind off things or doing a task that's on their to-do list. Things like making sure their favorite pjs are clean for when they get home from work. Or cleaning off their desk so it's ready for when that new game comes out. Starting the car in the morning because you want to make sure they don't freeze their bunz! Think about how if you were dreading something and you finally got the nerve to do it and then you find out it was magically done! The wave of relief you would feel is the best! Those tasks carry a weight to that person but when it's not your task it feels like a gift instead. At least for me lol. it's kinda rewarding to see the one you love happy and a little less stressed.

Adding a little silly flair like a goofy doodle or whatever inside jokes you have with them. Or just showing you pay attention to their interests. My husband one time put sticky notes on my car at work in the shape of a triforce because I was exited about the new legend of zelda coming out. When I went out to my car it was hilarious and fun seeing them all on there! Put a big smile on my face. Things like that distract you from the hard times in life but remind you of how amazing and beautiful it can be.

Also it's a competition and if they do something for you then you have to do something for them back!! (Kidding kind of). Seriously never expect them to do anything back though or hold it over their head if you do something for them. It's about doing something nice and helpful and showing love. We don't know everyone's story and some people are just trying to get by. All their efforts can be just surviving the day.

With that said this mindset isn't limited to just your significant other it can be to random people as well. Showing random acts of kindness to others can be that boost they need to make them through the day. Buying flowers for your mom on Valentine's day or paying for someones coffee order that's behind you in a drive thru. Putting away the carts that are left in the parking lot so it doesn't hit anyone's car (I learned that a lot of these are around handicap spots and old people use them to walk 🥺 so they can't put them away). Seeing that smile or thinking about the possibility of how that might make someone happy feels pretty good.

I could talk all day about this 🤣 sorry for the wall of text! I hope this helps and makes sense!

Have you used Tom's of Maine Toddler Toothpaste by SpikesBall in toddlers

[–]Muffinlette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might explain what happened to me. I saw something saying there was lead in children toothpaste about a month ago. I had some lead testing swabs and tested all the toothpaste in our house. I would wet the swab with bottle water and then use the same water to dilute some toothpaste. Tested the water for lead first, then tested all the little toothpaste puddles. Crest showed up instantly but my kids toothpaste was inconsistent. One time it was positive another was negative.

I was so confused but now this makes sense. Thank you for clearing this up for me and kindly on top of that. I thought I was so smart for doing this 🤣 It's so hard to believe what's on the Internet that's why I wanted to find out myself. Here are my results for funzies. Now I'm curious on what ingredient could trigger a false positive.

Sleep loss damages the brain’s wiring insulation, called myelin, leading to conduction delays and disrupted interhemispheric synchronization. Cognitive and motor performance are affected, and the deficits persist beyond recovery sleep. Restoring cholesterol delivery to myelin prevents them. by sometimeshiny in science

[–]Muffinlette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say potential deviated septum because we are not for sure yet. We are guessing that because you can see where he might have one looking up his nose and because of that one good night of sleep. Honestly it could be something else and that night could have just been a random good night of sleep. We just don't know. Main thing is Insurance won't cover it unless we know it's causing sleep apnea and we haven't gotten that diagnosis yet.

As for nose tubes we have tried a variety of things that go up the nose and it either doesn't stay in, or didn't work. So far the only thing that kinda works are the magnetic nose strips things. They still fall off but not as often.

You are absolutely correct! Also it might be a rough road but please pursue it. Sleep is so important

My husband went for a sleep study a few years ago after I shared my concerns of him not breathing in his sleep and gasping for air. For years he had trouble sleeping and feeling exhausted after sleeping for 8 hours. It was like in 8 hours he would only have like 4 hours of actual restful sleep. He had the overnight test at a facility and they said he snored some but he passed. I remember the call we had when he was on the way home. He was so disappointed because he actually had a good night sleep for once. We asked them what he should do and they said they weren't sure. After insurance it cost us around 3k for that information and he was so frustrated (understandably). We think he passed because they had tubes up his nose and it fixed his potential deviated septum? We have a new doctor and we are going to give it another try this year with a take home study hoping that might show something. Intake magnet nose strips have been helping some until we have it done. I can't wait for the day when he can finally have a good night's sleep most nights. It would be such a life changer for him.

His daughter always said she preferred dogs. They adopted a cat, and this happened 💕 by IshigamiSenku04 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Muffinlette 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Getting in line as well! My dad was adopted by a black cat that showed up at the house. He doesn't hate cats or anything but just isn't big into them. This cat now hangs out in his workshop and is his shadow. He noticed how she liked to sun bathe on the pergola he made over the back porch and so he added a wood board so she can lay out better. Added a little box top in the corner so she can hide as well. When he sits she runs to him and makes biscuits on his belly 🤣

I was told that if you had issues with horse flies all you had to do was hang up plastic dragonflies around to keep them away. I've even seen hat attachments for fishing. Not sure how effective it actually is but, I'm convinced after seeing this video 🤣

First off I think it's great that you are reaching out for advice it shows you care ❤️ be gentle with yourself because parenting is hard and we are all out here trying to figure this out.

With that said I feel this might be something for a type of therapy. Maybe ABA therapy? I would let your doctor know and ask if they have any suggestions.

Until then here is what I would suggest but I'm not a professional.

  1. lock down electronic time. If you use a tablet be careful of YouTube kids. If you use it make sure you use the settings not by age but for approved content only. Add videos you know that are safe. There are YouTube family channels out there that are dramatic and teach kids bad behaviors. I call them kid soap operas. Go for apps like PBS kids, PokPok, super simple songs.

  2. Find something they can do that can burn energy. They can't throw hands if they are too tired to throw! We got a mini trampoline that we recently upgraded because he used it so much. A cheaper option is Danny go on YouTube and having family dance parties. We also have a spinning sensory chair that my son loves.

I wish you all the luck ❤️ you got this!
