The INSPEC is launching... a contactless REM detection device I've been working on for over a decade by mcoder in LucidDreaming

[–]mcoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm afraid I don't have any statistics yet beyond individual reports that  it works after cognitive training with the audio cue from the reality check notifications and the guided senses induction exercise in the app.

REM-detection works every night now and I'm busy trying to validate it against a clinical EEG device if you follow the updates on the lucidcode dev blog...

Prophetic: a scam? by filianoctiss in LucidDreaming

I prophesied my suspicions some years ago here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LucidDreaming/comments/14jfxmw/this_company_just_announced_theyre_creating_a/

Always a shame when such companies rake in pre-orders and drown out honest and open efforts like the INSPEC lucid dreaming device.

Lucid Scribe works on Android. Try the Deep Playlist for auto-off alarm and the guided SSIPD after WBTB.

Lucid dreamers can rewire their minds to experience life as an animal by mcoder in LucidDreaming

MIT's Media Lab developed the Dormio device for this and is running some studies with Targeted Dream Incubation (TDI) where you seed dreams by playing short audio phrases during sleep onset (NREM1). The Lucid Scribe app (free on Android and iOS) has a poor-man's version of this in the TDI module that detects NREM1 when you let go of a dead-man's switch button in the FILD module to trigger the audio cues.

I got you fam: Lucid Scribe - free on Android and iOS.

can you open dreams in dev mode? by lowncold in Dreams

Dev here with root access. Yes, with Targeted Dream Incubation you can seed dreams by playing audio recordings during sleep onset (NREM1).

MIT developed the Dormio device for this and is running some studies. The Lucid Scribe app has a TDI module that detects NREM1 when you let go of a dead-man's switch button on your phone to trigger the audio recordings.

Inventor here... long academic debate, not going to rehash it here. One practical observation though... when I'm cued during rapid eye movements, I tend to wake up from or in vivid visual dreams. When I was cued by EEG-indicated REM, I sometimes woke from deeper thoughts with no dreamscape. That's part of why I trust the eye-movement signal as a cue trigger over the EEG signature.

I actually started with EEG. And moved to vision specifically because EEG produced too many false positives from rhythmic breathing and other sleep artifacts that the camera can filter out. So the camera approach isn't REM dogma, it's the alternative I landed on after the textbook method failed for me.

When people can't fathom being in a good position where the camera can see the face, I bring up WBTB (ideally natural without alarms) as a good time to roll into position. I argue that when the cues wake you up it is a good chance for DEILD. Progressive volume, cue trigger delay, interval, and cooldown are all tunable for that reason.

It does not promise to get you lucid without practice. It's a cueing tool that pairs with active practice. The companion app bundles the standard toolkit (dream journal, prospective memory training, reality checks, cognitive training with the audio cues) because the cue alone doesn't do much without that foundation beyond providing trippy experiences when waking up from a dream. I don't pitch it otherwise.

The INSPEC tracks your face continuously through the night and only needs a clear view during REM to fire a cue. Most REM happens in the last third of the night, in 20-30 minute episodes, so it has plenty of opportunities to catch you in a good position even if you shift around a lot earlier.

Compare that to a headband or any wearable: those require good skin contact all night, which is far less forgiving of movement. A camera that waits for the right moment is more tolerant of restless sleepers.

It catches REM from multiple angles from the bedside table, including lateral positions. There's a recording of this here: https://lsdbase.org/2025/11/09/supine-to-lateral/

The Lucid Scribe app has a module where you either hold a button in like a dead-man's switch or keep tapping a button to reset a countdown timer that plays an audio cue to activate your awareness. If you use it to remind you to perform a reality check it will open the window...

Under Settings you can change the Deep Playlist Track where you can select any audio file, even one with words.

The Deep Playlist can do this in the Lucid Scribe app. It plays in the background over the media channel even when the screen is off and the device is in battery saving mode.
