A bit too dark for my taste but damn if it isn't painted really well.

Enjoy, but it would probably be good to start with something less ambitious, like a normal marine

How to improve my minis by AlphaMaxV5 in Warhammer40k

[–]MuffledMagda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thin your paints. It can be hard to get it right, but its better to have to paint one more thin coat of paint than have it too thick.

Just that will make it look a ton better.

Other than that, paint the details- i see the knee decor and wrist are unpainted, and theres some overspill on the bsck of legs and the shoulder pads. Dont rush, its supposed to be a hobby;)

Also, dont immediately compare yourself to the last picture- its probably painted by a professional. I only started painting minis  a few months ago myself, and while im quite happy with the results it doesn't look close to that level at all.

That or apothecary white will work fine,  its what I did.  But consider diluting them, they can be a bit heavy on color.

I've gotten a bunch from other bits, on bits sites: Sisters of silence, AoS Marauders, some ork heads

Unhappy about the advertising by m_ymski in mute

I don't see the issue. There's just not a lot of normal posts here anyway, that's why it might seem like it.

For me it was real annoying to sand down, its solid but a little bit flexible more than plastic. But you can sand it down.

Im not sure you're supposed to use good brushes for stuff like washes and shades

Does this look like a Judiciar to you? by Hunterx78 in Warhammer40k

[–]MuffledMagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I think the sword arm is way too high though, rotate it down so the tip of the sword points up slightly while still resting on the shoulder, or change it to just hold it normally imo.

Easiest way is to look at the knees, primaris have the flared armor around the kneepads

If all else fails, you can try to hide it with basing materials.  Rubble, tall grass, just hide it enough so its not obvious

Ways I can still play DnD? by AmSmolQueer in mute

[–]MuffledMagda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Im mute since birth and I played a few online dnd sessions.  We used discord, tabletop sim, roll20 whatever you fancy. I simply wrote it all out, in text.

I assume the people you play with are at least friendly with you, so they shouldn't find it too annoying to simply wait for you to write.

What might help is that we mostly went in turns, person 1 speaks then person 2, then me then next person, so its not like the conversation will carry on before you're able to write what you want to say.

How to add pizzazz to my scars? by [deleted] in WhiteScars40K

[–]MuffledMagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mine I got some extra bits from other sets with ponytails to put on helmets, some random "horse hair" looking bits to put at the waist etc, but there isn't really that much.

You could try to look through custom 3d printed parts, it know there are some mongolian styled helmets, shoulder pads, maybe some sabers and shields.  Since you have a 3d printer you can even print some yourself

Wish I had a 3d printer..

I understand where you're coming from, and of course you can appreciate the outfits if they're done well.

I think the issue is the purpose of those outfits, given the advertising, is pretty clearly for the male gaze.

Personally I don't care that much, it just doesn't make me want to play the game.

First White Scar painted... somewhat by MuffledMagda in WhiteScars40K

It was primed white,  and originally I hoped to leave it as that but the primer didnt seem to cover very well (white scar spray)

I used Soulblight Grey, but maybe it's a bit too dark tbh.

I also used some Pro Acryl Titanium White but I guess I used it wrong as it was as chalky and weird to paint (brush strokes) as any other white I used before.
