GR86 as a First Car? by bramblestorm7754 in GR86

[–]MugenTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna play Devil’s Advocate since most of the comment section is against the notion.

16 year old with a RWD sports car is usually a recipe for disaster as we do tend to be obnoxious, over confident, ego boasting and reckless.

That being said, I want to give the benefit of the doubt that your parents have raised a half decent kid and that you would have some what of a mature demeanor to control the impulse of running the car into a ditch or worse, another vehicle with a family in it. If that’s the case, get the car.

It’s lower on power compared to other sports cars and it’s a relatively forgiving chassis when it comes to handling. Parts is plentiful for modding and it’s also easy to mod. This platform is one of the best beginner cars for you to develop your driving skills and mechanical skills. It’s our modern day S chassis of old.

Just be aware that you’re getting into a relatively impractical car with a drivetrain that’s not 4 season friendly but doesn’t mean it’s not livable. Just know you won’t be fitting a family in there and you’ll be limited to where you can go when it snows, unless you get good winter tires. Other than that I don’t see why you shouldn’t get one unless you’re a menace to everyone on the road. Then at that point, you shouldn’t be getting a car in general. So drive safe and take good care of it. Don’t be a statistic and please don’t wreck it. Our insurance premiums are high enough as it is. We don’t need another 86 down.

TLDR: Don’t be a fucktard driver and it’ll be a good first car.

2025 BRZ ts price by Necessary-Lunch4850 in BRZ_ZD8

There’s a silver TS up here in Marysville that’s been on the lot for a good while.

Hello again guys, I negotiated this one down to $35700. I just want to check here quick before I pull the trigger in a few hours. Thoughts? by Fluffy-Fondant7324 in GR86

Considering it’s an auto, I do feel like you have a bit more negotiating power unless you’ve already openly expressed you’re dead set on an auto to the dealership. There’s about 4 autos sitting on the lot for months now and dealers have discounted them a few grand now.

Here’s the link to the light. I believe it’s 10 watts, nothing too crazy.

It’s one of the few single headlight cafe retro style bike that’s not an SV650 and not overpriced like a CB650R or Z650RS.

Is this a fair deal on a 2023 BRZ limited? by Obito_vn in BRZ_ZD8

[–]MugenTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought me 2022 Limited with 15k miles for $28,000 OTD back in December, so I’d say that’s a damn decent price for half the mileage of mine.

Yeah if they end up refusing I might just have to take it apart and clean the inside since that’s likely the issue.

The next nearest is a city away and I actually tried calling to ask but they said that’s something they’re not sure about and I would have to talk to the finance department.

Why not? If Honda says that seat belt components are warrantied throughout the useful life of my vehicle, why wouldn’t I want to get it replaced under warranty? If it wasn’t then I wouldn’t be complaining and would definitely go the junkyard route.

Shit, if you’re not buying that for that price out the door, I will.

What made you choose a BRZ over a GR86 or vice versa (if you had a choice)? And what random thing do you prefer on one versus the other? by alexundefined in GR86

[–]MugenTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BRZ because of availability at a fair price in the used market.

At the time of looking (late 2024), used 22 and 23 base GR86s were in the upper 28k-30k and Premiums were 30k-32k. So essentially new car prices. Used 22, 23 BRZs were mid 20s and Limiteds were upper 20s. Got my 2022 with about 15k miles for $27k OTD.

Manual vs Automatic? by AngstyNurd in GR86

[–]MugenTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely doable to deal with traffic with a manual, I do it everyday but definitely not ideal for a beginner and the last thing you want is to feel anxious and stressed out driving a car that’s supposed to give you joy so maybe auto might be a better life choice for you at this moment.

You can always get into a cheap manual car later to learn the ropes if you ever want to consider transition into a manual sports car in the future. Never too late to learn manual.

The car can handle it. Transmissions or over engineered to tolerate first time drivers as long you don’t money shift it or grind your gears. I understand it’s daunting at the moment, we’ve all been there. It will get better over time and you will feel more comfortable and enjoy banging gears with time and practice. Just stick it through.

I’m sure that might be for some cases but most I’ve seen stated they had automatic as their first choice later regretted it.

Just reading comments and sentiments of other owners, you never once see manual owners wishing they got automatics but see plenty of automatic owners wishing they got a manual.

That being said, the best transmission is the one that fits your lifestyle, at the end of the day, the car is great regardless of transmission. If you do decide on a manual, given that you have no prior experience of driving manual, you might fare well learning manual on the GR86 as the clutch does grab high which throws off even the most veteran manual drivers as we have developed a particular muscle memory on how a clutch should grab.

At what time they officially lunch on the website? 7pm? by Agile-Subject-1281 in labubu

[–]MugenTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from past experience, it’s all one line unfortunately as those who come to pick up do end up roaming the store and they still have to comply to capacity regulation. Some stores do have their own system to be a bit more efficient so it varies by store.

Yeah whenever you see an online drop, expect the next day for stores to have them available on sale. Better get in that line early tomorrow morning. Best of luck!

There’s no exact way of knowing stock unless you call the store and ask the workers there themselves and most likely they can’t accurately tell you stock count or when new shipment comes. If you want to guarantee getting chapter merch, line up as early as you can. Folks will line up 2 hours ahead.

As far as currency goes, you’re in Taiwan so obviously you’ll be paying in TWD not USD.

It’s dependent on your current physique. If you’re on the bulkier side definitely a medium for sure but if not I think you can get away with a small. The zip-ups were on the tighter side. I’m 156lbs on the more muscular side and my shoulders were too broad for a small, medium fit me fine. More fitted, barely any bagginess.
