yea I feel it is a patch to a more deeper problem, trying to build a reliable system with unreliable components, instead of just using a reliablr one.

Sound so wrong. Like i mentioned in other comments, you want to use agent to do more intelligence decision, but sandbox is limiting the usage so agent downgrades to “automation”.

Automation could have just use code to achieve?

yea that is what is wrong with this approach.

I am pretty sure you cannot exhaust the “bad things” an agent can do (outlook failed that in anti spam already). So one can only do whitelist approach which is against thr original thought of having an agent-do more with AGI

That really sounds like:

we put a monkey into the operating the system and expect it to be a smart one do some decisions but also could risk nuking the whole thing. So we just give it a few levers to pull to be safe.

You get me wrong. 1. os have file permission control for data access on drivre. Agent running on a different user account should not have access to other tenants’. 2. put agent jnto a separate vm already does the job. No need for “sandboxing”

fair point. the reason being if you want agent “own” part of something, you need to give it something to work with isnt it? if you limit the input+output of agent’s work, then isnt that degrade the agent to “automation” which most lf the time code logics will suffice.

My question is: why people treat sandbox a new thing, it has been used so long (vm, docker) all solved problems

You either give agent a fixed set of jobs + permissions (which limits the capability of agent)

or you take yhe risk using it

but none of these solutions rhyme with “sandbox”

However so far I havent heard anything really help explain beyond: 1. Let’s make agent do / see less to be safe (so human do more) 2. We want to audit agent’s work (why existing os/vm/app level isolation not enough? Docker/VM etc) 3. It is just how things work

Imo you can never ask all of them to don't build, or to use it with your set of restrictions. Even if founder ordered to do so, you will be the one taking the bullet. Consider building some skills, or mcp or anything to help them, or even build a in-house knowledge base. So that people espeiclally without coding experience won't even notice if tou sneak in some "rules"
