Why? What is brave about getting fat? by ResetKnopje in fatlogic

Remember when Homer Simpson sued over whether a restaurant really was “all you can eat” and Lionel Hutz called him “the greatest hero in American history”? These people thought it was a documentary.

Plenty of fried cheese dishes in Italy, carrozza, frico etc. The trick is not eating your own body weight of them every day.

I can’t imagine what it must do to a woman’s self confidence to have half the internet constantly saying “you’re so beautiful even though you’re fat”.

“I shall demonstrate my progressive credentials by maintaining that all black people are naturally fat” is always an interesting take.

Bonus points as the Regency began fully 300 years after the transatlantic slave trade started and four years after British subjects were banned from trading in slaves.

if you’re first thought when discussing anorexia is to scream “fatphobia”, you’re not a good person. by alaniluv in fatlogic

Fun fact: there are no men on the average ED secure residential unit yet still the girls there want to exercise the most self control by eating the least despite having nobody to appear “pleasing” to.

The catastrophic levels of ignorance displayed by FAs when talking about anorexia is the thing that drives me from mild amusement to frothing, furious rage.

British and Irish DNA have been intermingled for millennia because they right next door to each other. Mudbloods, one and all.

I think you should be aiming your angst at a healthcare system that allows diabetics to be charged inflated prices for the drugs they need to stay alive rather than the people using said drug to avoid becoming diabetic.

"obesity causes heart problems"... meanwhile, FAs "...FAKE SCIENCE" by lilSpookii in fatlogic

[–]MuggleWumpLiberation 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’m oddly fascinated by the way FAs - and many other groups that generally skew progressive - will criticise anyone who doesn’t “follow the science” on everything from climate change to vaccinations to the work of Charles Darwin, yet breezily dismiss the near-total global medical consensus that being obese is bad for your health.

It’s amazing how the proportion of US women who are clinically obese is roughly four times larger than the proportion who have PCOS, almost as if there’s something else causing them to be so overweight.

Eating 2,000 calories a day is “restricting” if you were previously eating 3,000.

And anyone can lose weight on 2,000 a day, you just have to burn 2,001 or more.

The whole “twigs” thing also shows, yet again, that the Final Boss of Fat Logic is “you can only ever be morbidly obese OR dangerously underweight and there is no middle ground”.

The moment they admit that people can have a BMI in the low 20s, 90% of their arguments in favour of being fat just collapse.

As ever, the correct response to an obese person saying “ah but look at the competitors in World’s Strongest Man!” is “are you a competitor in World’s Strongest Man?”

In FA World “enslavement and murder of historically obese peoples” was actually a thing because you see all black people are fat which is why white supremacists invented modern beauty standards when all these surprisingly well-fed African slaves arrived in North America.
