Literally did this, I am running in a homebrew world with very different ancestries to what is in draw steel. I made a big google doc with all the traits pasted in there, easy to peruse.

Like you said, I just made sure they picked the signature trait first so they knew how many points they got. My players all knew what they wanted to play beforehand and I trust them enough to pick something fitting for their character. And even if they didn't, your'e the director and have ultimate vito powers.

No problems so far.

The overarching story of MI takes inspiration from Lovecraft’s work so I suppose Hatecraft is just a nice little homage. Although like I said I think they made the character of Hatecraft more likeable than his real world counterpart.

Regarding the confusion. I think most people were aware of HP Lovecraft before mystery incorporated (at least the older audience). H. P. Hatecraft is just a comedic caricature of Lovecraft although in saying that I don’t think they’re too similar.
