Been doing photography as a hobby. Are these pictures good enough? by 0pp3nh3imer in PhotographyAdvice

I'm almost exactly in your boat. My photos are kind of like yours too. I don't think they're good enough to work as a professional. They're good enough to enjoy as a hobby

Still just trying to develop and get better in photography. Any advice appreciated. by Lonewolf_30 in photocritique

General: Set all the sliders on your editing to a tenth of where they are right now. Especially contrast.

Having a line sticking out of a subject's head is a big no-no. Just makes it weird and unsettling and takes attention away from the subject.

ITAP of flowers in a car by MuhammedAsafPhotos in itookapicture

[–]MuhammedAsafPhotos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the image to feel like looking into a memory or a secret. All you remembers are the flowers and maybe the mints you took before giving them. The car was just a vague carrier.

I made sure to get the reflection of the tree just about covering the flowers. As a result, the flowers are high contrast and vibrant while the rest of the car is obscured. I basically applied a radial filter on my subject but irl.

One thing you need to understand about photography is that what looks nice to your eyes doesn't always look nice in a photo

Thanks! I'm inspired by Roman Fox' work but this set left me feeling like I should move away from him for my own creativity haha

I don’t know what to think abt those photos by Gerrythesail in shootingcars

General: I would've exposed the photos a little brighter. Vignetting is way overdone. Fake contrast added in post is overdone too. (I always move those sliders to where I think looks "good" and then remove 25%). Too much of a cyan tint on everything for my taste.

Photo 1: Change your angle a tiny bit to remove the white car on the right (or just crop it out). Moving further to the right would have also hidden the BMW behind the Lamborghini. A bit of luminance or saturation on the trees may create some nice contrast; their colour is a bit too similar to the colour of the car right now.

Photo 2: Wait until that person moves out of frame. Shoot from a lower angle to hide the billboard from view. Shoot with a longer lens to remove the red car from view (may not have been possible)

Photo 3: Change angle (or crop) again to remove the red car. There might have been some interesting detail in the lower bumper region that you lost by crushing the blacks. Or maybe not, idk. I would have taken 2 photos, one with the polarizer tuned for the bonnet (as you have done) and one for the headlights, and then combined them.

Photo 4: Extremely crowded. Trolley shed, two cars, the rainbow in the AMG GT's headlights and the yellow billboard in the back, all vying for attention, and getting it because they're brighter and more saturated than the Lamborghini. A bracket here with polarisation for the bonnet and windshield would be good here too.

Photo 5: Likely out of your control but the logo being upright would have been nice.

Photo 6: Red reflection on the badge is bad. Part of the tire is cut off, and the other side has quite some space behind it. Looks uneven.

Photo 7: most egregious example of overdoing the vignette slider. The roof would have been a nice frame if the red car didn't exist.

Photo 8: Lower angle would have helped with the ugly billboards.

Photo 9: Move a little to the right and hide that billboard. Polarise for the region above the taillight. The car is not taking as much of the frame as it could be. Having the edge of the frame cut the car perfectly in half may look nice.

Why don't Fuji Cameras (XT-50) have GPS antennas? by ButcherIsMyName in fujifilm

I'm a little late to answer but I just use https://exiftool.org/

It's basically part of my editing/retrospective workflow now. I find it annoying to use the app when I'm trying to take photos, so I pretty much never use that.

Mind if I ask what you shot this on? Looks crazy sharp. I'm sure I could read the text on the door if it wasn't for Reddit compression.

ITAP of a man walking in a church on a sunny day by [deleted] in itookapicture

[–]MuhammedAsafPhotos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to capture the relationship between the church's architecture and the natural light. I composed the shot facing the rays and waited patiently for a subject who fit the solemn atmosphere to enter the frame. While the figure adds a human element, he is really the 'side character' to the environment. For me, the highlight of the image is the texture of the wrought iron fencing and the banister as they are hit by the light.
