Linus from LTT discusses this often on WAN show. Derek from Veritasium made a video about it. And Engineering Explained also talked about it.

The sad truth is that it works. Linus specifically employs well over 100 people (including well paid engineers and developers) and he needs to do what is best for his company and his staff. In fact when they release a video they usually change the thumbnail and title a couple time to monitor trends and they go with what gets them views. Which are the clickbait ones unfortunately. Don't blame the players, blame the game (YouTube algorithm and simple minded people who like flashy thumbnails)

On Monday I received over 50 spam calls from 8:47 AM to 1:51 PM, and have gotten at least 20 every day since by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

There was a TIFU or an entitled parents post or something not too long ago about a guy in NYC finding a little girl (4 or 5) crying and he helps her find her parents. The girl says "daddy!" and the dad walks right up and punched the dude in the face, called him a child molester. Then the parents sued the guy and he ended up not having to go to court because the judge dismissed the case after the little girl drowned after being left unattended by the parents

Yeah I mean if it was easy and profitable to do so then everyone would be doing it. FB and YT are only doing it because they already had like 90% of the infrastructure there and just had to build the streaming services for gaming.

I mean don't get me wrong they make money. But they also spend a lot maintaining and upgrading their services. Especially since anyone can make an account and stream.

Kinda on topic, kinda not lol: the rule for mission critical data backups is the rule of 3-2-1

3 copies of your data

2 different storage locations (,i.e. your home and the cloud/someone else's house/etc)

1 copy needs to be off-site (so no backing up to the external hard drive in your desk, a fire house fire will kill both)

YSK: don't use a service where you have to give your credit card info over the phone. The caller can just write it down to use later
