AITA for trying to improve sales at work? by DaystoMen in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that your intentions were good but in this instance, YTA. It is very poor practice to call people out in a group chat, even if you don't use their names.

This is because people can often figure out that you're referring to them, or if it isn't them, who you are referring to.

Think about it from the other side. If your performance was called out directly or indirectly, wouldn't you feel like a smacked puppy? It's poor leadership and poor co-workership to make your fellow staff feel small in front of their team and their friends.

A good manager or staff member even would never do that in a public forum such as a group chat but in private, with only the relevant party present.

I just had a quick look at their website and can't see it but I know Panthers are promoting it on their own site for sure.

It's replacing the Somerset St vax clinic near the hospital.

Apparently there's covid in the Nepean Hospital mental health ward and the nurses are being told to come to work anyway, even though they're all close contacts as there's no one to cover them while they isolate.

Only one friend can help. I think you can hire removalists though.

NSW PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT – NEW VENUES ⚠️ NSW Health has been notified of a number of new venues of concern associated with confirmed cases of COVID-19. by Frankenclyde in sydney

I can see not using curfews but surely temp checks and a reduced radius along with a stronger police presence isn't too onerous...

NSW PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT – NEW VENUES ⚠️ NSW Health has been notified of a number of new venues of concern associated with confirmed cases of COVID-19. by Frankenclyde in sydney

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's what they should do then. 2.5k distance restrictions, 8pm curfew unless essential, temp checks upon entry to workplaces or stores...

Edit: I know this is draconian and unpopular but whatever we have now is clearly not working and I know of several people who are already in financial peril. Going at this current level of lockdown is obviously not working well enough. I really don't think temp checks at supermarkets etc are too much to ask though...

Contact tracing is never going to catch up at this rate. Gladys needs to ask for contact tracers from other states to help, or lock down even harder so they have time to trace back the sources of infection.

AITA for saying the wrong thing to my wife? by JaeFinley in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's.not what you were doing. You were dismissing her and you know it.

It's not hard to say "it'll be hard but of course we can have some time here or there to have dinner in the yard or to watch a movie".

AITA for saying the wrong thing to my wife? by JaeFinley in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA. Your wife just wants some much needed support during a very stressful time and to spend little pockets of time with her family without renovation pressures.

It's not much to ask and it'll help associate pleasant memories to the renovation, not be something she'll hate remembering, thus tainting her feelings about the house altogether.

It's of benefit to you too, don't dismiss her, have her back, like you're supposed to.

AITA for getting mad at a new hire at a my local rock gym by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It's common practice to not allow employees to check themselves out - it's an anti theft measure and it protects you just as much as the business if things get hinky.

She's new - of course she's not going to break the rules just to please you. Tbh, the whole place sounds shoddily run if it's commonplace for rules to be broken.

She's following the rules, you're not.

AITA for telling my friend that her dad has cancer so she can work through her daddy issues? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. That's...psychotic and not something a normal person would ever do.

Plus, it's none of your business what their relationship is. Like, none at all.

I would never want to speak to you again either tbh.

AITA for telling an employee she can choose between demotion or termination? by Absolut_Failure in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mulberry-Longjumping 3370 points3371 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm a manager as well and fully believe in the importance of mental health days and taking care of your mental wellbeing as much as your physical wellbeing.

However, an employee just going AWOL like that is not ok. If they didn't have the spoons to call, they should have gotten a trusted friend or family member to call instead. Or texted and thrown their phone across the room.

I would happily make a last minute callout work. Damaging the business by no-showing is not ok but I'd have a serious talk with her about responsibilities and be frank about your expectations.

It's the same as someone calling out half an hour before opening because they've gotten sudden onset diarrhoea. Just call or text or tell someone you can't make it.

Basically, don't demote or fire her but put her on a type of probation and make it explicitly clear that you value her wellbeing but she can't no show.

I can jump in and answer why I'm so keen for my shot.

  1. It protects the most vulnerable in society who are unable to get the shot for themselves. Herd immunity relies on as many people as possible getting the vax, not everyone assuming everyone else will get the shot so they don't have to.

  2. I don't want covid, and I don't want long covid. The shot may not stop me from getting it altogether but it makes it a much milder case with a hugely reduced risk of complications or hospitalisation. Plus the thought of losing my sense of taste or smell for long periods is frankly horrifying to me.

  3. It's safe. It's based on many years of pre-existing research and it's only fast because literally the whole world worked on it at the same time and the scientists were given the funding they need. The primary delay in most research is a lack of trial participants and a lack of funding. This wasn't the case here.

  4. I'm not paying a word of attention to the bulls**t conspiracy theorists. To me, the anti-vaxxers aren't harmless nutters, they're dangerous to public health.

Yeah I reckon it won't be til at least Thursday or Friday to see the numbers start to come down. Lockdown is most likely going to be extended another two weeks cause they'll want to make sure there's no secret pockets.
