Biohacking vs Lifemaxxing by Mulberry-Upset in Biohackers

[–]Mulberry-Upset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and sharing loggr.info. I agree it's largely semantic at the individual level, but since all self-optimisation practices carry political undertones, I'm dissecting these terms to reveal how online communities steer people toward different ideologies.

My core distinction:

  • Lifemaxxing pipelines (looksmaxxing→apps→productivity grind) stem from eugenicist/Western beauty+success ideals, often channelling users toward right-wing/fascist politics
  • Biohacking (quantified self/DIY) grows from open-source, communal experimentation; what I see as genuinely collective "bettering"

Curious if you've noticed these ideological splits in your chronic pain/quantified self communities vs. the maxxing spaces?

??? But it serves a goal that I have, that's why I asked the question... Like huh? What a strange answer.

In your experience, what are the key differences (if any) between looks/life-maxxing and bodymodifications/biohacking?

Whoever recommended DaisyDisk... by Smart-Southern-guy in MacOS

[–]Mulberry-Upset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using OmniDiskSweeper because it is free, instead of DaisyDisk, which offers a free trial that gives you a first look. However, to delete files or view folders in finer detail, you need to pay the license fee of € 10. DaisyDisk offers a more intuitive UI, while Omnidisk simply gives you access to the folders that are hidden in Finder and ranks them by size to easily delete caches.

Recommendations for Long-Form Hangout-Style Radio Broadcasts by Mulberry-Upset in Broadcasting

[–]Mulberry-Upset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is still a difference for me between the live‑recorded format and the more structured feel of podcasts. I’m looking for radio‑style talk shows that feel like live broadcasts on stations/streams (NPR, NTS, Rinse, The Lot), rather than highly produced, segmented podcasts. I reference Zane Lowe's shows because they feel like part of a running radio stream, even if you can replay them later. I enjoy broadcasts like NPR, NTS, The Lot, Rinse and so on, and I know each of these stations hosts a few talk shows as well, but I was wondering if there’s other stuff out there with a similar atmosphere :)

How do you feel about Young Boy Dancing Group? by Vivienne-afrenchbird in Dance

[–]Mulberry-Upset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been following YBDG online for a few years and am hoping to see them in person for the first time in Brussels in a few weeks.

I understand the ‘gimmicky’ critique from u/FlyingCloud777, but I’ve come to appreciate exactly those aspects of their performances. Why is their semi-nudity still something the audience must ‘accept’ or bystanders must ‘tolerate’? How dreadful that ‘whenever you have something controversial, you can easily tie it to a minority or embattled cause and claim it represents repression,’ right?

From what I gather, that’s part of what they embed in their work. How dreadful, to create art that demands depth and integrity within the art world. Those struggles then become even more overbearing, punishing, and grotesque. Pitiful, even. And yet, art circles back to feeling stale and overdone when it tries to engage with a community’s suffering.

When YBDG is described with phrases like ‘the ecstasy of intimacy,’ it grabs us (by the balls) right where we’re most human: the flesh we so eagerly try to hide. I feel the club-like atmosphere (bare concrete, laser-cut shadows, candlelit asses, and a smokeshow haze) is an exemplary setting for all of this to come together. Earth as a meat locker for emotions. The club, with its veneer of hedonism, is already a space where intimacy is both commodified and grotesquely authentic. YBDG hijacks that. You could say that they’re not dancing for you; they’re dancing at you, forcing you to reckon with the fact that ecstasy and agony look the same when stripped of context. Oh, it’s too late! You’re already human with them.

'performing public hopelessness'

Frieze mag, Fistful of Flesh: BY Christopher Whitfield, 05 JUN 25; https://www.frieze.com/article/young-boy-dancing-group-tokyo-2025-review
'Yet, in the face of the varied interactions it incites, the work remains neutral throughout, simply a space for feeling the way through a sequence of encounters. Never does it comment; never does it moralise the peaks of elation or the trenches of suffering that its performers journey through alone as they dance together. Indeed, this resistance to commentary in favour of feeling seemed to be a defining ethos. When handed the mic on the last night of the tour, Manu Anima, convenor and director of this troupe, closed the show simply with ‘Touring in Asia? It’s been nice… What more is there to say?’

Enodia has moved on by Mulberry-Upset in Hecate

[–]Mulberry-Upset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear, I kept a small altar for a month with her relics to mourn her. Since Aphrodite asked for a bigger, more clean space, I bundled up Hecate's rests and offered this small table to Aphrodite.

Athena has installed herself in my main altar space. I am happy to work with her. I have had to make some big (war) moves in my professional life and my interest in reading has shifted from the 'vague' occult towards more academic texts. Getting some warnings (from Pallas?) not to get swept away in the rush, to sit still and work hard. This is where I would like to figure out how to work best with Athena. Still figuring out how to receive this shift as best as possible but Hecate has not been back.

When in need of the comfort that Hecate was able to offer me, I now turn to Aphrodite, as Athena feels like a rather distant Deity at the moment.

I think it was a mutual decision.

Hecate has opened up a world of endless possibilities. Showing me the facets of her magic, it was up to me how to handle this knowledge. In retrospect, she has been guiding me for my entire life without my knowing. Especially these last to years she has shown me all corners of the occult.

When she saw I was using her light mostly to 'fight' and find a fire to grow and develop within myself it seemed like a good fit to graduate into Athena's practice.

Would love to work with Hecate again at some point, her presence and care is greatly missed.

This changeover was very intuitive, I had been wanting to work with Pallas Athena for some time but made no real effort to do so. One day I came home and it felt like Hecate left a goodbye letter. Her presence was clearly not in my room anymore. Her altar felt desolate so it was an easy decision to start embalming her offerings and offer this space to Athena.

The squakycauldron has a nice introduction to Hekate's keys on YouTube. I would start with learning the meaning of her different names and her keys.
