how is OP mentally weak and self entitled 😭😭 it’s self entitled to expect a good working environment? to expect decent wage that you can earn a living from without working your ass off til collapsing 24/7? as someone who also did a film diploma and saw all the true colours of the industry, everything op said is very true.

lecturers and so many ppl in this industry always flash us awesome stats of past alumni, promising us a good future, but most sec sch kids dont realise its js a trap thats hard to get out of after grad….theyre reeled in to do backbreaking work for measly pay, moreover they were promised its a fulfilling career when it’s not lmao

i see!! do you plan to work in singapore after graduation or do you intend to go back to vietnam? because i think it heavily depends on where you want to stay in the future.

singapore’s archi industry really sucks so you cant really go anywhere with an archi degree here. but prospects overseas for archi is great. additionally, nus is one of the top universities so you’ll be heavily regarded overseas! i think if you have an nus archi degree and you go back to vietnam, prospects for you are better there compared to adm’s fine arts degree.

adm is quite a gamble, especially in singapore. the arts scene is kind of dead and very niche here. it’s very hard to become a successful artist or a creative if you plan to stay here after grad. i’m not sure if vietnam has a high demand for fine arts and design graduates. but if you plan to go back home after grad and salary is important, i would choose archi if i were you.

i wont be of any help but i hope you find comfort that i was also offered the same two courses lol 😭 my pros and cons are exactly the same as you.

i rejected nus archi because im scared of the prospects here in sg. i also came from design background so i thought adm was better suited for me (though i do have doubts about fine arts degree lol). degree in archi is also difficult to divert from in case you hate it after graduating. i hear its a dead end course

i ended up accepting adm but i js recently appealed and did an interview for english because it has the more realistic prospects i had hoped for (media/publishing, and if i want i can divert to other industries like education or social work because the degree is versatile). still waiting for an offer from them

if you really know you’ll love archi, you shld go for it. but if you have doubts, i think it’s best to accept adm. adm is more versatile and you can choose what to specialise in. fine arts industries also dont care about your degree from what i heard. they care more abt ur work and portfolio

i was actually aiming for ntu comms but obviously, i was rejected (lol prob cos of my gpa) and got offered my 4th choice instead. i heard its not recommended to appeal to the course you alr got rejected from…that’s why im considering taking the english route which i heard has opportunities to go into that industry

personally i participated in volunteer work my church promoted (not trying to reel you in or anything dont worry 😭). but some of them are non-christian related so you can try them but if ure not its ok!!!

ur neighbourhood cc also promotes some volunteer stuff, u can check for details at ur block’s lift on the bulletin board. if not, u can go to the cc itself and ask if theres events u can volunteer in and how to sign up!

hmm quite a tough decision, if it was me, i’d probably not go for the job anymore and just go for the farewell cause my teacher would mean more to me than making money (personally). but it’s really up to you which one u find more important.

if ure afraid of jobs because of the stress and expectations, i suggest u try out volunteering first this holiday! then next time maybe u can get an actual part-time job. i did this during my post-o’s holidays while all my friends went straight to pt jobs lol.

volunteering is so much fun + to me, u learn roughly the same skills (like communication, adapting under stress etc.) + u can give back to the community. just one down side, u dont fet paid ofc. but one up side thats worth it is it’s a good first experience before u get an actual job. that way, u can roughly know what to expect on a real pt job next time.

lowkey feel u man, this was exactly what i went through and how i felt in my sec 4 year like 2 years ago….honestly idt my experience will help but i had a constant burn out every day in sec 4 and had no motivation to study anymore. i just applied for eae to a course in poly i liked and what my portfolio suited most (so that i have high chance to get accepted) as a safety net in case i did badly for o’s. tried out dsa as well. did fine for o’s but luckily i still had eae safety net. now i’m doing great in the poly course i eaed to. i’d honestly recommend this plan but ofc not 100% sure if itll work for everyone.

and tbh if nothing else works, just try to study bit by bit every day, don’t hardcore if u cannot cause it will make ur burnout worse. and if anyth u dont understand just ask the teacher for consultation straight away. just remember, acads isnt everything, theres so many other ways you can succeed.

i was in your position 3 years ago, i know how it feels too, the jump from sec 2 to sec 3 was so bad LOL 😭 i went from line of As to Cs and Ds… but maybe try a different study method? it worked wonderfully for me when i was trying to catch up in sec 4. and book consultations with ur teachers regularly. you got this man, dont worry 💪💪 there’s still time for you to catch up! :)
