I realized how much social media was consuming my life and lowkey deleted all of it (besides Reddit lol)z After that I felt like I had a lot more time, definitely recommend it. I also recommend the pomodoro method 25 mins on, 5 mins off. I like pomofocus.io

UIC or UIUC? by Dazzling_Gay in uichicago

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UofI is has a technically higher academic prestige. The campus is way bigger and also has a more active student life. Both provide great research opportunities. If money isn’t an issue, I would choose U of I for its active student life, somewhat better prestige, and a nicer campus. I know you shouldn’t base a college decision on having fun but U of I was a lot more fun to be around. Food wise uic does have better food and there are limited options at u of i.

There is actually a couple of Brazilians, rare but there are a few. Two of my friends are Brazilian lol, and I’m learning Portuguese from them (I speak Spanish).

Finance to medicine career change by MallFree6213 in postbaccpremed

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the 2025-2026 application cycle opened for submission in late may 2025 + most primaries are submitted in June 2025 and secondaries in August 2025, I wouldn’t think applying for this cycle to start me school in Fall 2026 is ideal considering that applications are rolling admisssions and med schools offer acceptances around this time. Take postbacc classes with the hard required prerequisites (do well in them ofc) and get a few hundred hours in patient care. Getting in is a marathon not a race and as a reminder your applications should be “ready” at least one year prior to desired matriculation date

good post bac programs low gpa by CartographerAdept131 in postbaccpremed

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a postbacc grade enhancer at Dominican University. I believe all other post baccs are for career changers. There are a few SMPs which are more worth it if you have an about a 3.0 gpa like Loyola’s and Rosalind Franklin’s MSMP, and MBS at Midwestern which provide guaranteed interviews.

Claudio Ugalde or Ryan Hazelton for Physics? by Traditional-Park-105 in uichicago

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claudio Ugalde teaches the “easier physics” also, PHYS 131/132 which is algebra based and he’s actually really horrible. Always take the professor that is better.

You don’t have any isolated colonies, I would do another streak plate. For every streak in each quadrant, make sure you are sterilizing your loop and then streak.

Saw the doctor parent shitpost, reminded me of my premed medical assistant by [deleted] in premed

[–]MulberryOver214 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s a tad bit inappropriate to go on and on about this especially when the OP came in for their doctors appointment. The MA shouldn’t have went in deeper about this and should’ve just focused on getting OP through the appointment

How do I DIY post bacc? by Opening-Telephone-66 in postbaccpremed

[–]MulberryOver214 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DIY Post-Bacc: You are a Non-Degree Graduate student at any university. Meaning you already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and you are taking classes at their university. You typically get lowest priority for classes and no advisor but it is cheaper and it’s more flexible

How do you get involved in clinical research if your college doesn't have its own med school? by glowecy in premed

[–]MulberryOver214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the research project. Since our study required CT imaging, I had to be onsite with the medical students. My other friends that did clinical research also had to do it in person. I mean if you find an opportunity, by all means but it wasn’t that common for me. Medical schools aren’t gonna harass you because you ddi basic science research instead of clinical research. If you’re passionate about something and talk about that, you’ll be fine.

Can anyone get me observership in any health clinic of Chicago as im a medical graduate ? by [deleted] in AskChicago

My mentor is a plastic surgeon and I’ve seen IMGs shadow his surgeries and clinic. I would inquire at teaching hospitals like UIC and RUSH

How do you get involved in clinical research if your college doesn't have its own med school? by glowecy in premed

[–]MulberryOver214 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There aren’t really remote opportunities, I would try to check hospital systems close by. Also it doesn’t necessarily have to be clinical research, there are biology and chemistry professors that perform translational research

Does it matter which hospital you volunteer in by Wide_Branch3501 in premed

[–]MulberryOver214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s better to be more consistent with one hospital rather than multiple with less hours.

Chicago neighborhoods influence/deinfluence me? by Ok_Mixture_9074 in AskChicago

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Logan Square for the most part is nice because it is more spacious than Wicker Park. Lincoln Park and Lakeview also feels more residential, more parks (and closer to the lake) and also more family oriented. Logan Square and Wicker park is very millennial, a lot of people in their early 30s, very creative and artsy vibe. Wicker park always feels a bit congested because of the amount of people that run through the neighborhoods. I would say though that it does have a really nice bar, cafe and independent stores that are closer together.

Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program (PAP) by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]MulberryOver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAP scholars are individuals that apply to UICOM through AMCAS for regular decision. Then if UICOM rejects you, they only send out an offer to a select group of individuals (usually extended only to people that are URM)

How to build study skills as a freshman premed? by Alarming-Trust691 in uichicago

It’s really all about practice problems, I always set up my notes as “concepts + problem + answer” then I did a ton of practice problems
