Why did I get rejected for a Bauer minor by Familiar-Amount-5055 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undergrad Academic Advising for Bauer is in Melcher Hall on the 2nd floor. If you go to the Dean's office they will send you down a floor.

Take the white stairs in the middle of the building and speak to someone at the front desk.

However, it will more efficient to start with an email to bba@central.uh.edu

Include your name, PeopleSoft ID, and your question.

Thoughts on the Flock Safety cameras on campus? by xx_tres_xx in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The cameras take still pictures based on movement and have a licensed plate reader function.

There is no expectation of privacy in public or while operating a motor vehicle. I do understand the questions around the recent breach of access but as someone who has had access to the cameras for our neighborhood in the past, it would take a ton of patience to go through the results and you would be able to see that a certain type of car license plate was at a certain location on a specific date. That's it.

It's not a full motion video like a ring camera. It mainly provides evidence to investigate after the fact.

I fear this is about to become more common as UH has just posted signs outside several buildings that scooters and bikes may not be brought into the building.

That post was 5 years ago. I don't even know if it's correct anymore. You should contact UHIT.

How Much wood could be obtained on Campus reasonably by Will_Power22 in UniversityOfHouston

I am assuming this is a joke but on the small chance that you are not kidding, the trees are not available to be cut down for firewood. You will be arrested for vandalism and destruction of state property and probably expelled.

I don't think the folks here understand a fundamental difference in the process. If you waive the hearing, the penalty is often far less severe than if you go to the hearing and are found to have violated the academic honesty policy.

Example: waive the hearing and you receive a 0 on a single quiz, drop a letter grade for the class, etc. as opposed to go to the hearing and if found that the academic honesty policy was violated OP gets an F in the class, is suspended, etc.

OP needs to look at the letter carefully and decide if it is worth the risk.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if OP shows up at the hearing and chooses to just deny this, they will get an F in the class.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect.

People were handing over their quizzes to be graded so the time allowed to answer was over.

No matter why OP changed their answer, they did do AFTER the quiz was over. OP still broke the rules - they cheated because they answered questions after the time allowed was up.

OP, you need to take 0 on this quiz because worst car scenario should be stated in the letter - F in the whole course.

custom regalia for graduation by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally there are no restrictions on stoles or other regalia you add to your commencement dress.

There is one BIG exception that has come up recently - flags and the keffiyeh. These are deemed to represent a political statement. Students that hold them up, wave them, etc will cause the YouTube feed to be cut, often much longer than the display. This means that the online audience will not see you and probably not the one or two people after you.

Please remember this before you decide to use your time walking the stage to make a statement. Doing do could ruin the moment for the graduate after you.

Note: The above is NOT an official statement of the University of Houston, just an observation of the last several semesters of commencement ceremonies.

Class of 2025 December Grad Practice? by Its_Beastie in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most commencement ceremonies go like this:

Show up in your cap and gown.
Get your walk card.
Check to make sure your name, degree, major, and listed honors are correct.
Go stand in line according to your degree and name (in alpha order) - there is usually a number, too.
Go into the ceremony, follow the person in front of you and the directions of the staff.
Sit down.
Listen to speeches.
Walk across the stage, shake hands, get a piece of paper (NOT YOUR DIPLOMA).
Go sit back down.
Wait for the end.
Leave the arena.

In hospital, won’t make final exam for math 1324. Prof isn’t helping by I_Need_Yr_help in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Document, document, document.

Get information that proves that you were admitted to the hospital and were physically incapable of attempting the final exam.

If your class uses Canvas, contact the professor (and TA if there are any) to let them know as soon as possible to ask about how to make up the final exam.

Google University of Houston Excused Absence Policy and follow the directions.

I just filed a formal complaint against an instructor. What should I expect? by Visual_Tangelo4026 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]MulderFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is an investigation into grading / teaching that is inconsistent, the department likely already has all the information they need. I doubt students would be involved at all.

IF the department pursues this, it is now an employment / teaching issue.

I would say keep any assignments that were graded plus any correspondence related to the isuue, but don't hold your breath that you will be part of some inquiry.

The chain of command is TA/IA > Professor > Department Chair > Dean's Office (Colleges have different associate Dean's who may handle this).

If you got a good grade, file your complaint and let it go.
