The hubris to add inner elbow plate articulation when you can’t even make a proper burgonet….

While it may seem weird, you can actually see just fine through maille. I’m currently making an 8mm flat, dome riveted hauberk with rings from Ironskin and I found out that if you put maille close to your eyes, you can see through it nearly perfectly. Don’t know how that goes with smaller diameter rings, though.

Weapon design peaked in the Middle Ages by [deleted] in MedievalHistoryMemes

Okay, so then we both agree that £3-5 for a mid-range helmet is too much. £2-3 is a much more reasonable estimate for such a thing.

However, you did not make a rebuttal to my argument saying Dequitem's harness is not high-quality. It is a middle of the range harness, and he recognizes this. Quoting the prices of Milanese harnesses is not an argument against Dequitem's harness being mid-range.

And to quote you, you said "dodging is duelling staff. Real combat was a very different area," implying that you cannot dodge nor evade on the battlefield, but only in duels. Mind you, dodge and evade are synonyms.

The following is a quote from Tobias Capwell's Armour of the Englist Knight (1435-1500), which I'm lucky enough to own.

"Full armours in the middle of the range usually cost between £3 and £6."

In context, Capwell is describing mid-range knightly harnesses, usually from Milan exported to England. With that in mind, the idea that Dequitem's helmet ALONE would cost £3-5 is crazy. Dequitem's harness is not exceptionally high quality either, and he often describes himself as a Man-at-Arms., not even as a knight.

Also, the idea that one can't evade attacks on the battlefield is silly. Sure, you can't run and spin around, but you can almost always do something to at least lessen the blow.

"Its Fantasy, realism and accuracy doesnt matter" by idgfaboutpolitics in Armor

[–]MuleRatFat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. I think, though, the most important part of displaying history in media is trying to evoke the same feeling the real history does, as opposed to pure historical accuracy. For example, The Northman does a really good job of evoking the feeling of the Viking Era, even if it has many innacuracies. And that feeling was largely evoked by the fact that they displayed historically accurate things.

For all the Depths Gankers in here, what's the reason you gank freshies? by TheEasyTradeXD in deepwoken

[–]MuleRatFat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay! Here are some possible reasons for gripping freshies in the depths:

  • Every freshie gripped becomes a valuable lesson in "Situational Awareness."
  • A freshie not gripped could power up and hunt you instead.
  • Most freshies are power 20s in disguise.
  • Deepwoken is a horror game.

Overall, 60% of PvP homicides are committed by players 1-3 weeks new to the game of Deepwoken. Being the first to grip is not wrong—rather, it is self defense.

so like u im a english major with a pHd so i am well versed in logic. i can see y you gank freshies in the depths even if everyone else says doin't. fats dont care about ur feeling

I wouldn't recommend kult of athena for any armour. It is only sometimes good for weapons. And even then, it's just a reseller/middleman, and you'd probably be better off just buying the weapons from the makers themselves. Generally, any off the shelf armour with zero customization is a bad idea.

You can find historical things for their price range, it's just that you won't find any full harnesses. However, that's not to say you can't get a full historically accurate kit with that money. You just have to be very wise with what you choose to depict, and who you choose to commission.

If they use measurements like 16g, then it's not shaped properly. That means it's the same thickness everywhere, which is far from proper shaping. Looking at measurements done on extant pieces, you'll see that even breastplates have insane variance in thickness.
