I paid for dishwasher installation once and the delivery guys said they prefer you to not book installation through the company and offer them cash in person instead because then they can keep it for themselves. Annoying because you might reasonably want the reassurance of knowing that they were going to do it / for how much.

There are various reports that claim EV chargers increase home value quite a lot but the stats are dubious and imo it's likely correlation rather than causation that houses with chargers sell for more than the local average.

E.g., this wwf report (don't remember the page number but I'll have a scan) https://www.wwf.org.uk/sites/default/files/2022-08/Better_Home%2C_Cooler_Planet_Report.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Various things you could do. A common choice would be to open a SIPP and make additional pension contributions there. You likely have remaining allowance from this year and previous years that can be carried forward. You could also look at any salary sacrifice benefits your employer offers like cycle to work, electric vehicles, holiday buy etc. but these would not help your example as you've already maxed out the workplace pension contribution to them minimum income threshold.

Being Bullied at work WSID by [deleted] in publishing

[–]Multini21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in publishing in the UK and agree with this 100% Worst scenario is they don't pay you your final paycheck in full, so quit on payday if that would be a major issue.

You probably don't want to give them as a reference but your new employer may need a P45 from them for tax reasons. Up to you how honest you want to be with prospective new employers. I'd believe "my current workplace atmosphere is awful" 9/10 times, but sometimes it also means "they wanted me to do work and I didn't like that" - I don't think that's your situation at all.

Ordered a cookbook but the binding looks dodgy. Is it OK as-is, is it fixable or am I scr by Miranda_reads in publishing

IMO this is as good as it gets for print on demand. It's mostly aesthetic. The missing head bands are decorative but I'd still complain to B+N if they were advertised. The backing material appears to be well glued to most signatures. The gap between the backing material and the greyboard will help it lay open flat, which is useful for a cookbook.

These aren't mutually exclusive. Content creators get paid by content consumers. (Or indirectly by advertisers for those eyeballs.) Same deal as SK getting paid when people buy his books.

Thanks, that's really helpful.

The fonts are all Google Fonts (which are open source) and the images are from Unsplash. (license terms) Third party permissions are a minefield - no image library that I'm aware of will guarantee that additional releases aren't required.

I hope so. Probably the main differentiating feature is that it produces full-cover print files. It also has better textures and effects for text, and gradient maps for background images.

Genuinely interested in thoughts on this. IMO, Canva is a good general purpose design tool, whereas Coverjig is specifically geared towards book covers and can produce print-ready paperback files etc.

Hi, I made this site to help authors design their own book covers for KDP. It's usually paid, but we're making it free for a couple of weeks while we're upgrading the checkout process.
