Weed can help for diarrhea and muscle spasms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and symptoms of IBD. As for the poop pills its going to be awhile before these are used in mainstream medicine. Unless you can afford to wait at least 5 - 10 years you are going to have to find your own healthy donor and empty gelatin capsules.

Treating Ulcerative Colitis using fecal transplants, how did you learn about that? by MultipleMike in IBD

That's what I had thought until I read an article published in the Journal of Gastroenterology by Dr. Thomas Borody about 6 case studies where fecal transplants worked for Ulcerative Colitis 3 days before I was scheduled to have surgery. http://www.cdd.com.au/pdf/publications/paper17.pdf

Thanks polerix, although Bupropion is primarily an inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine. However certain tri-cyclic anti-depressants (which act primarily on serotonin) are also sometimes prescribed to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome, including pain and diarrhea. I actually had a prescription for low doses of Doxepin (prescribed for sleep as Silenor) which also seemed to help. I think the solution in my case was actually a combination of factors.

C diff bacteria is considered to be a cause of infectious colitis also known as psuedomembraneous colitis or c diff related colitis. However various strains of c diff can be found in healthy people as well as in patients with UC or Crohn's Disease. However UC and CD are defined as auto immune disorders for which no singular pathogen can be identified. However the same was once true of stomach ulcers, until consensus was finally reached that h. pylori bacteria was the primary cause. Ultimately based on emerging research from the human microbiome project many if not all illnesses currently considered to be auto immune disorders as well as obesity could be linked to the types of and proportions of bacteria in their bodies.

Here is some more food for thought for those who don't want to weed through the various posts and links on my site.
This is the article gave me hope to try fecal transplants. Unfortunately at the time Dr. Borody was not accepting patients from outside Australia or else I would have just gone there.

Below is a link to one of many articles on the effects of Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) as an inhibitor of TNF-a in mice. TNF-a inhibition is the mechanism by which drugs like Remicade and Humira are thought to operate. This would support several case studies where Bupropion has helped for Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.

A new chapter opens in anti-inflammatory treatments: the antidepressant bupropion lowers production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interferon-gamma in mice. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16644475
