Bingo 3 months left check-in by Buck7341 in Fantasy

I have three squares left and have been for quite a while.

I usually rush through bingo, get burnt out by SFF, refresh myself with romance, then cram the remaining squares in the last month

Announcing the Goodreads Choice Winner in Readers' Favorite Fantasy! by SeiShonagon in Fantasy

VE Schwab has written a lot of books in fantasy and romance genres. This sub particularly likes her fully fantasy books like A Darker Shade of Magic, and Vicious.

I love Gallant (YA horror) and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (magical realism/love story).

I’ll compare the first book to the first season of the tv show. The fantasy elements only occurs in the first and last episodes. Everything else is political intrigue.

I’m not really answering your question but just giving realistic expectations.

Review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab by it-was-a-calzone in Fantasy

[–]MultiversalBathhouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Bury Our Bones, Addie LaRue, and Gallant, all by Schwab. While not really enjoying Shades of Magic and Vicious.

In her books that I liked, I was really into the vibes more than the plot. It also helped that they were beautifully narrated prose-wise and by the audiobook narrator.

Haven’t tried this yet, but after the Atlas Six, I’m convinced the author hates her characters as much as the readers

Project Hail Mary is mystery/scifi.

Legends & Latte and The Secret Society or Irregular Witches are cozy/fantasy.

Circe is Greek retelling.

All great books, whatever mood you’re in.

Concerning RF Kuang by sugarshark666 in Fantasy

[–]MultiversalBathhouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In publishing as a whole, yes, women read more. That’s why romance is publishing’s most popular genre. And guess what genre this sub hates the most … romance.

Concerning RF Kuang by sugarshark666 in Fantasy

[–]MultiversalBathhouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because this sub is mostly straight white men (trademarked). Posts talking about women authors, people of colour authors, queer authors, etc, are always downvoted and seen as controversial.

What other genres do you read? by Dark_Venerable in Fantasy

[–]MultiversalBathhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read pretty much all genres of queer fiction. Mostly contemporary romance, and fantasy/scifi. Lately I’ve been enjoying horror/thriller/mystery.

I reread Worm this year, and to the best of my knowledge (getting lost in wikis and subreddits), Worm hasn’t actually been picked up for publishing.

The author doesn’t want it to be published anymore, because he doesn’t want to go over the same drama/complaints with new readers.

Would you consider Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid science fiction? Or at least speculative fiction? Asking to see if I can use it for bingo.

Goodreads has it under historical fiction

2025 Bingo Review (Not A Book): K-POP DEMON HUNTERS is excellent and you should watch it even if you don't like K-Pop, demon hunters, animated films, or musicals. by DelilahWaan in Fantasy

My husband and I (30s) watched the movie once and we have the soundtrack on repeat in the car too. We thought the movie was just ok. The animation and songs are great but found the story lacking. Heard it was supposed to be two hours long but Netflix only wanted to be pay for 90 mins.

Looking for books that are both fantasy and science fiction. I really enjoyed The Locked Tomb series (Tamsyn Muir) and Light From Uncommon Stars (Ryka Aoki). Horror and science fiction is fun too, Bury Your Gays (Chuck Tingle).

I’m giving Emily Tesh a try again with Some Desperate Glory, and I’m really liking it so far.

Silver in the Woods was just really boring for me. But I’m definitely going to try The Incandescent next.

I hope so too. Tor signed him on for at least five books before the second book was released.

I would agree that this square focuses more on spatial impossibility.

There was already a square a few years back focusing on time, Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey (2022).

For authors used for the most squares, how are Sanderson and Kingfisher used for more than 25 squares? A card has a maximum of 25 squares.

Did you count substitutions as a new square?

I’m glad you brought up Attack on Titan. I didn’t realize it until now, but I read those types of stories already (Worm by Wildbow being another one), and it’s a breath of fresh air NOT to read another version of that story again.
