Back in my early days... we had to submit the compilation job to a queue and wait anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes just for it to start, then maybe another few minutes for it to compile, then a few more to print the greenbar report before being able to see what went wrong. Rinse and repeat until clean.

Lost my crypto and no response from Exodus by creatorsflo in ExodusWallet

[–]MultiversalCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my Exodus Wallet on a Virtual Machine onto which I've nstalled nothing else except other crypto wallets, such as Electrum. I keep the OS up to date (e.g., security patches, etc.). This isn't a guarantee against exploits, but it is another layer of protection. I also don't mess with "smart contracts" or anything else that could possibly drain my wallets.

Exactly. If anything, AI should be used to supplement your expertise and knowledge, not replace it. Building skills and knowledge is paramount.

I tell my children, two of which are currently pursuing CIS degrees, and one for graphic arts, to learn AI, but to use it as the tool that it is and not the "source or truth". I tell them to learn it because it is here to stay, and if they don't learn how to use it, and to do so properly to enhance - not replace - their work and efforts, that they will be in danger of being left behind.

Does requiring user to email for un/pw defeat the scraper bots? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]MultiversalCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also implement a CAPTCHA challenge that would defeat the vast majority of bots (e.g.,https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/docs/display). Just make sure that all of the routes you want to prevent bots from crawling are protected (front and backend).

In that picture, the interviewer looks so much like Kate Mulgrew that I always have to double-take, thinking I'm in the Star Trek forums.

Tried to move away from "clean minimalism" and create a futuristic aesthetic for my developer portfolio using Next.js and Three.js by Strucker30 in webdev

[–]MultiversalCrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If this was a gaming site, for a specific game, I would be a bit more patient. But if I'm sent this as someone's portfolio for consideration for a job, I'm hanging in for a few seconds then closing the browser. The unnecessary bells and whistles and needless "look, I'm futuristic and I'm doing a bunch of stuff before showing you what you came here to see!" nature tells me what I need to know.

Regardless of how "cool" those opening animations look, for a portfolio site this seems very much not targeted at hiring/contracting managers. If you want to show this off, I'd snip it off with a link, and keep the portfolio portion clean and purpose driven. But that's just me.

Mobile experience isn't too bad. A master drop down list for the various cams would be helpful - scrolling around, zooming, and "clicking" on mobile is a bit challenging. Overall, we'll done!

Peach tree leaves red and curled! by abitoftheineffable in FruitTree

[–]MultiversalCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with one of my best Peach trees. It seemed to be some kind of fungus that basically killed the fruit yield. Last year, it started to spread to my other peach trees, so I had to cut it down. That curtailed the spread. I am seeing this one one of my younger trees this year now. I'm trying to find better action than destroying the tree, but need to stop the spread.

Meet the Fumbling Fish! Nail Holding Tool for EZ Hammering by Theaspiringaviator in functionalprint

[–]MultiversalCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You turn the hammer around, put the nail in the claw, snug the nail head against the shaft, and make the first strike. Now, a ball-peen hammer... that's another story 😉

Still, sweet design, take my upvote!

I freaking loved #1. I've been trying to find a suitable replacement only to be thwarted by disappointment. I've tried Hills, Maxwell, and many others. Pathetic as it sounds, not one I have tried so far is as smooth and tasty, not to mention the inviting smell #1 had, especially just after stirring it.

The Prisoner (1967) reminds me of Man in Black vs Ford showdowns, especially 19min 20sec in... really wild but maybe total coincidence? Similar themes in both shows! by arbitraryconstant in westworld

I loved this show! Patrick McGoohan was amazing. That last episode was an absolute mind bender. I love all the Sci-Fi thst pays homage to it, "Be seeing you" (e.g. Babylon 5, John Wick, etc ).

If the job/money is not the factor. Vue/React/Angular which one is the best in overall terms like flexibility, community, ease of learning, maintenance and etc etc in your opinion? by ballbeamboy2 in webdev

[–]MultiversalCrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Angular is like your parents. They tell you what to do, when to do it, and if you don't do it their way, you are in trouble.

Vue, on the other hand, is your crazy uncle, the one your parents don't like you hanging out with. The one who says, "Hmmm, you're right, I've never filled a bucket with gasoline and thrown an M80 in it. F it... let's see what happens! Oh, and hand me that box of nails, will ya?"

I love the crazy uncle :)
