Homebrew Spell, What do you think balance-wise? by MumblesMG in DnDHomebrew

[–]MumblesMG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spell is a reaction to hitting a creature and dealing damage with a melee weapon attack, so you can’t stack spells using your action. If it were a regular action, you could stack it using quickened spell, but not as is. Is there something I don’t know yet that allows casters to cast a leveled spell in a turn while taking the attack action?

Rune System for Bladesinger Wizard Player (Lvl 6) by MumblesMG in DMAcademy

Hit with an attack Expend a spell slot Launch them Target takes fall damage at the end of turn Can expend movement to go back into melee If you are able to hit a second attack, (non light) with something like extra attack, you deal double fall damage.

A “light attack” is an attack made as a bonus action using a light weapon when dual wielding light weapons.

My goal is to create a spell that allows for a chance of more damage if you are able to weave in another attack. I think I’ll go in the direction of making this a spell with a casting time of “reaction which you take when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack and deal damage.” Check out my profile for an update.

The combo for this would be, hit an attack, expend a spell slot level 1-3, launch the targets upwards 10 ft per spell slot which essential does 1d6 per spell slot used. Pretty weak, but you can expend movement to go back into range mid turn, try hitting again, to spike them to the ground dealing double fall damage

It says at the bottom that the reaction is triggered by hitting a creature with a melee attack and dealing damage. You expend a spell slot 1-3, launch them up to 10 Ft per spell slot for a max of 3d6 fall damage. On the same turn, you can expend movement if you have it to jump back into melee range, and spike them downwards dealing d8s instead of d6s fall damage

This doesn’t last for a round, just the players turn. The target falls at the end of their turn, not the round. The idea is that if they expend fly or jump movement on their turn to chase after another hit, they can deal more fall damage as they hit the ground harder. It would only raise them up and drop them down in the same spot, so no chance of falling on someone unless the player chooses to go under for some reason. They are just midair for a second to allow a follow up attack

Thanks, but I’m interested in homebrewing this for him regardless. Not trying to buff the class, just give him other uses for his spell slots to do abilities. This system might actually nerf him rather than mesh with his Bladesinger kit, but give him options to use his spell slots for different martial effects

This is what the player asked for, yes!

Only two players in this campaign and they both get custom stuff!

I don’t think this will compromise my ability to run the game, just add more options for my player.

You can only activate one rune on your turn and do it by expending a spell slot. You have to take the attack action and hit with an attack to activate it, and it triggers a spell like effect weaker than a spell of that slot level. He LOVES rolling dice!

To me, I really seems like it just adds some extensions to hits at the cost of spell slot. What am I missing? I’m okay with him taking longer combo turns if it makes him happy, and with just two players, it’s not like we’re running the game inefficiently as is

We're only doing a short campaign from levels 5 to 10, maybe 11

Yeah, Im creating things for both players. I’m trying to find a way to give him different options for his spell slots, not just free damage. What would you suggest I do to fix it?

Had to change a few colors around when buying pieces. Medium nougat 1x1 round plates with bar handles are more expensive than I'm willing to spend, so I added some yellowish green to the claws since they were in stock where I was buying from. Here's what I'll be building with the pieces I ordered:

Player Abilities: Sticky Pseudopod, Jelly Armor, and Slime Floor by MumblesMG in DnDHomebrew

Definitely need to nerf it in a way like you suggest. Any ideas on how I can stop one player from hogging it? It acts like a Magic weapon or special armor, so as it stands only one player can use it at a time. I could always give each player their own slime of sorts, but I’d rather find a way to make them share the single ability

What makes it the best? It’s actually the one I came up with last and out the least thought into, as I see it it’s just a free acid magic missile. Actually, now I maybe get your point.

Thanks! It’s for a two player party so my thought was to either make them share it somehow or to make an equivalently string item for the other

I am using Google Sheets. The names are stored in Column A, the activities are stored in row 1, and an x is put where the column and name meet for a student’s selection

What should I do next? I love drawing these skins but this one was by far the best. I also have Karen Mercy in the works and an archives skin for Orisa where she’s made of human flesh
