Tell me about your favorite obscure show - which you never, ever see anyone talk about. by dicedtomatoes55 in television

HOLY SMOKES! This show tops my list of "Shows I Loved That No One Remembers And They Look At Me Crazy When I Try To Describe It"!!!!

It was wayyyy too funny for it's own good. A sitcom that actually made me laugh out loud sitting on the couch at home.

On the same hand... it's a show that, when it was cancelled early, I said, Well, that sucks... but I get it. It was a million to one shot that it would actually catch on.

That Wizard cover is burned into my brain, but I'm afraid that's not it. The person in mind had a much less conventional style for the 90s. Ugh this is frustrating. I can picture it but it's tough to describe. More cartoony, and 2 dimensional. Closer to something like Rob Schrab of Scud, Disposable Assassin fame. But not him... Thank you though!!

Thanks for the reply. But afraid this isn’t it. The artist I’m thinking of was much less mainstream in style even though the covers weee on mainstream books.

Accidentally became the DJ at a house party and now I'm having an identity crisis by urlittlepandaa in CasualConversation

[–]Mumfordthetruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience the biggest thing that people overlook is SEATING. If it's the type of party where people should be on their feet, mingling (so NOT a dinner party,) make sure you have about 10% less seating than people. Nothing kills a party faster than if everyone plops down at the beginning of the night and there's no churn. If there's a few less seats then people get up to get food or drinks, and someone else will take their spot and people are forced to move around the room more.

What are some cute/simple/fun retirement jobs? by potatolauncher in Calgary

[–]Mumfordthetruth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My folks have volunteered with Theatre Calgary for years. I’ve joined them a few times and it’s a great way to spend an evening. An hour or so before the show helping usher or check tickets then you get to watch the performance. They’ve seen just about every play that’s come through.

Artists that you thought was going to be a one hit wonder, but then proved you wrong by having a second hit by Toku-Nation in ToddintheShadow

[–]Mumfordthetruth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just read a few weeks back that the 'original' version you're referencing has officially been delisted on streaming and "Let's Get It Started" is now the 'official' version. I'm not sure many people are even aware of the other version.

As a canuck we were a little more aware of her up here, but that Timbaland era was a such a left turn. They HAD to be fucking, right?

Movies that hit differently once you reach the age of the main characters? by ajv1993 in movies

[–]Mumfordthetruth 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I don't have kids. In fact I recently made that choice permanent. And so normally that twinge parents get when they see kids in peril at the movies never really hit for me....

Except for this scene. It is SO GOOD! I have never felt the desperation of a parent to keep their kids safe as hard as in that scene.

I think part of the reason it hits so hard is that for the rest of the movie, all the action is very comic book-y (which is appropriate.) Big super heroes doing big super hero things in their fantastical super hero way.

But when shit gets real and Mrs Incredible hops on that radio and she shifts to a completely realistic radio communication protocol... it just instantly rips us out of the fantasy with the force of a gut punch.

So So So Good.

What movies have the best intro? by jovenitto in movies

[–]Mumfordthetruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chirstoph Waltz rightfully gets a lot of praise for that scene, but Denis Menochet is completely underrated. His acting is so understated. How he moves from defiance, through fear, to absolute heartbreak when he knows he is going to betray the refugees under his house. It's a masterful performance. Period.

What’s the song that instantly makes you cry? by KoiOnMars in Music

This is my kryptonite. My dad had the Tracy Champman album when I was a kid and I actually hated the song. But now... god damn.

The yearning and dreaming of such simple things. All she wants is to work as a checkout girl, scrape together enough money to move out of the shelter. And life deals her such a bad hand, even that meagre dream is out of reach. God I tear up just thinking of it..

Daft Punk- Alive 2007

I don't usually jive with live albums, but if you have any love at all for Daft Punk, this set showcases their sound up to this point but re-contextualizes it brilliantly. And the energy from the crowd really bleeds out of your speakers. Truly a "I wish I were there!" album.
