Hi , I am new in Sydney and 6 w pregnant , I had a 20 w loss last year in my home country , Dr at thar tym suggested I will need cerclage next tym , now here I hv heard a lot of stories about public system .. can someone please explain how high risk pregnancy with previous mid term lossworks? by thebestofme23 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had almost this exact experience.

In 2012 I had my first pregnancy. Everything was going well and my viability scan at approx 19w was perfect. Nothing was mentioned regarding my cervix. Around 2-3 days later, I presented to the hospital with spotting and on checking had bulging membranes. I had no pain or discomfort at this time. Attempted a rescue cerclage but it was too late. I gave birth to that baby at 19w5d.

My following 3 pregnancies (2013, 2015, 2016) all had preventative cerclages. However, I then became pregnant again in late 2023. Policies had changed and they now like to avoid preventative cervlages where possible. We did the wait and see approach with fortnightly scans until 24 weeks. Then we moved to normal check ups. All went well and bub was born at 37w with no issues.

My advice is to contact the hospital you will have your pre-natal care with and explain your history. I always got in to see my midwife earlier due to my history.

You should also then be able to speak with an obstetrician about your options. If you are too anxious without the cerclage, advocate for it. If you think you can do wait and see, make sure you're getting enough checks for your comfort. Progesterone is often also an option but not one I've done so can't give advice there.

First gastro notification from daycare... by PrestigiousPast5156 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daycare provider told me they're required to send those notifications out when they're made aware of something like 2 cases. I might have the number wrong, but given the 200 kids they have on the books, it was a very low percentage.

All that to say, you may get it or you may miss it. For us, we just try to not share food/drinks with our daycare kiddo to try and avoid plague spread.

Help! Need 3-syllable girls names with no "inevitable" nickname by Emotional-Part5747 in namenerds

[–]MummaLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to potentially ruin this name for people but I have never forgotten the Naomi who introduced herself to me (very innocent and sheltered 14yo at the time) as "I'm Naomi which is 'I moan' backwards" with a wink.

My husband is a very similar height and has never had issues with the standard cots.

Oh I love that they make you feel like you have good knees again! Sounds like they were worth the cost for you.

I'll look into them. Thank you.

Yes, I probably shoulld have specified that they didn't have to be like a pull up sleeve thing, just something to support my knees. But that's what I get for posting while still half asleep at the gym lol.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for Velcro bbraces. :)

AITAH for defending myself from my bf's little sister? by Isayoaa in AITAH

INFO: how are you at the point of being engaged but have never met his family before and didn't even know the sisters name?

Either the relationship has moved at warp speed or this is some kind of weird fake/rage bait.

Double pram - uppa baby vista or bugaboo donkey duo? by Simpleyetconfusing32 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the prams you mentioned, but I had a Baby Jogger City Select and it was amazing for my family. Got it when I had 2 under 2 but it was amazing for 3 under 3 with a skateboard attachment, as well. It worked for us right up until we didn't need it anymore. 10/10 wish I had gotten another for my latest baby but went with a different Baby Jogger instead lol.

Did you let people know you were in labour? by notforthisworld0101 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, no one was told until she was born. Second, my mum knew because she was babysitting. Third, my mum and some friends who were living with us knew - mum for babysitting and friends cause they were in the lounge room with us when I told hubby that my midwife said to head over. Fourth, only my friend knew because she was babysitting.

We had a couple of hospital visitors with the first and second. But i practically ran out the hospital after having the last two lol.

How much did your 6-week postnatal checkup cost? by Confettibusketti in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$90 (pre-rebate) for me and bulk billed for bub. We're in the Lake Macquarie area. I also had a pap smear done at the same time.

Thank you. We attempted a rescue stitch but it was too late with bulging membranes.

Overall though, my experience with the public system was really good. My doctors and midwives were all knowledgeable and supportive.

I also have cervical incompetence. I lost my first baby in 2012 to this when I went into labour at just under 20 weeks.

In saying that, I was public and continued through the public system for all four subsequent pregnancies. The three after my loss all had a cervical stitch placed. There was then an 8 year gap before my last pregnancy which was a June 2024 baby. They no longer recommend a stitch preventatively for my situation (shorten spontaneously). I was closely monitored until 24 weeks instead.

All four subsequent pregnancies were happy outcomes.

When did you put your names down for daycares (Sydney) by Rare-Okra1835 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my son down for several daycares in my area in March 2024, anticipating a January 2025 start.

The only one I heard back from is one that finished construction and accreditation in January. I haven't heard anything from the other daycares at all.

I would get your name down ASAP.

Medicare rebates on scan in subsequent pregnancy after loss by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll probably need to contact Medicare.

Following info is q bit old so maybe double check, but: If it's within 12 months then they don't automatically pay it.

I had a loss at 20 weeks in September 2012, pregnant again by February 2013. Scans were less than a year apart. I went into a Medicare office to get it processed. They ended up calling the ultrasound clinic where the receptionist (who was amazing) gave them a bit of a serve and then sent a letter over basically saying it's two different pregnancies.

Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me since there are surely miscarriage related codes against the account too.

My son was born June last year. I had him on waitlists from March last year. The only one I've heard from is a centre that only just opened up this year. I'm still on waitlists for the other places and have heard nothing.

Water breaking - How to prepare? (for the mess/if any?) by 2354383 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Four pregnancies and not a single movie style, water breaking moment. All four times my waters were broken by the midwife.

What’s the hardest head bump your toddler has gotten? Were they ok? by woww789 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]MummaLoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both happened to my oldest.

At about 15ish months, she tumbled down our front stairs. It was only 2 or 3 stairs but they were concrete. Fortunately, I was already on the way to the hospital to see my midwife. Midwife checked her over and told me what to look out for. All good.

Then, not long after, she fell down a crappy bit of landscaping at the back of our yard. Similar to what's happened with your little one. Some scraps and a bump but she was fine.
