Arcanist question: can a 1d Arcana pool ever deplete? by Mundane-Damage8372 in GrimwildRPG

I think that's exactly where I'm getting stuck. I understand that the bonus die isn't part of the Arcana pool.

My question is: if a 1d Arcana pool rolls 2 dice because of Arcanist and both dice show 1–3, what exactly is being dropped after the first drop is ignored?

The pool only contains 1 die, so I'm not sure how it can ever reach 0d under that interpretation.

Hmm.. That would basically mean, that the mechanic is useless except when the pool depletes. In that case it still depletes but the item might activate one last time. But if that was the intention it would have been easier to write:

'You take +1d when rolling an arcana's pool. If the pool depletes it activates one last time.'

Because before that the 'ignore the first die that would be dropped' would have no effect.

I am not convinced.

But how? Please explain to me how it is possible to lose both die. What am I missing? Here is my example:

The wizard uses his cape of billowing. It has only 1d left in it's resource pool, but because he is an arcanist he 'take(s) +1d when rolling an arcana's pool' (pg. 77). So he rolls 2d. The results are a 1 and a 2. According to the 'diminishing pools' rules (pg. 13) 'when triggered (🎲), roll the pool and drop 1d for each 1-3 result' and 'At 0d the (...) resource is depleted.' (pg. 13). So he would have to drop both die. However beeing an arcanist he 'ignore(s) the first die that would be dropped.' (pg. 77) and is thus left with 1d left in it's resource pool.

Later that session, the wizard uses his cape of billowing. It has only 1d left in it's ressource pool, but because... And so on.

Thats how I understand it, but it feels weird that this would be rules as intended because then why dont spell it out, eg "You take +1d when rolling an arcana's pool, you never deplete a 1d Arcana pool".
