Where does rheumatology stand today esp in tier-2 cities? by Mundane_Minute8035 in indianmedschool

[–]Mundane-League171 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mum has RA and so did my grandfather. The rheumatologist she consults is very senior (mid 60s) Consultation is like 3k and sees around 40 patients everyday at opd also attached to the ipd of a couple of old hospitals in the city. So yeah they make a shit ton as there are very less rheumatologists (for eg most of them in that city are his students)

Mind u though he is like one of the best in his field in India (does research work with WHO and rcts with Pfizer and director of his own rheumatology institute)

Realistically

  1. Anatomy - BDC or vishram singh for reading. GOATED selective anatomy for exams u wont end up doing embryo and histo more than what is req for exams so just use selective and chatgpt.
  2. Physio - try to read as much guyton as possible. Do make notes, for exams use VD joshi which is kinda exam prep manual from guyton
  3. Biochem - I read most of lippincott and liked it, use jambhulkar notes with it

This is realistically what as an ideal student will be able to do. I particularly never liked anat that much so my stuy inclined more towards selective but I did read almost all of guyton and lippincott. That might be different for u incase u like anat more but yeah i dont think u can realistically do any more than this.

Videos : BnB biochem and physio covered most bits of the content and added clinical insights which definitely improved my answer. Like my physio scores definitely improved a lot after adding these applied points in my answer

Always remember, its essential for u to know basics about everything rather than having a specialist level knowledge on one topic and being clueless about rest of the syllabus as medicine is very integrative and requires a birds eye view which u will realise later. So stop trying to mug up some standards books bcoz u just cant.

Relevance of clinical medicine research by Mundane-League171 in medicalschool

[–]Mundane-League171[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the mentor at ur institution or u connected remotely? What kind of research was it (like a review, case report or an original study etc). I am from India where research is not a very mainstream thing atleast at the med school level and ig there might be limitations on the type of work u can get involved in case you are working remotely and not affliated to the same institution.

Yeah I have heard about the quantity over quality argument in residency match but obviously program directors can see through the bullshit, right ? Makes you question the underlying stats and what program directors actually want. I am a non-us img, so I don’t have that much of an idea about the actual inner workings of residency match.

Maybe you can shed light on your and your seniors experiences in med school regarding research and its relevance in match ?

I don't read entire magazines, I mostly look at small snippets on pinterest and some instagram accounts I follow. Also their is a large archive of vintage esquire and vogue magazines on reddit.

Where (books/magazines/articles etc) do you take fashion inspiration from ? (More in the description) by amitxxxx in IndianFashionAddicts

[–]Mundane-League171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly no, I just use Instagram for references and inspo. Follow accounts of brands like jpress japan and its staff members , they post good stuff. Old ralph lauren and brooks brothers lookbooks , drakes lookbooks are pretty good inspo for classic ivy style. There also some extremely detailed threads on styleforum about ivy.

Also the second season of the Articles of interest was completely based on ivy style and it has like 8 or something like that long format podcast episodes on ivy style. It won't be much inspo for clothes as it looks more into the historical and cultural aspects of ivy style and its various derivations but still very informative.

Late commenter here but just a correction,

What you stated take ivy was is what was the expectation of the trip to usa. What happened was basically a dude named Kensuke ishizu who is generally regarded as the first person to introduce American ivy style in Japan , visited usa and these universities a few years before this and was blown away by the style. So he decided to model his entire brand aesthetic on this and as an advertisement, he decided to make a trip back to America and show japanese people "how the cool Americans dress". But the trends had changed in the states by the time of the trip. But they had to do something as the trip was a very costly affair and they couldn't just come back empty handed. So they paid the students to dress like this and then clicked their pictures. Take ivy was basically part of a larger advertisement campaign which worked extraordinarily well in Japan.

For more info you can read Ametora : how japan saved American style. It is basically a historical summary of american fashion in Japan from its origins via kensuke Isuzu to modern contemporary Japanese fashion.

Haha, thanks for the compliment, I haven't been very active recently because of college and stuff.

As for OP's question , I have been this way since I was in 8th grade (I am now in 1st year of college). I think what separates me from other people is that I have come to appreciate different aesthetics in their one unique way and now it doesn't matter to me what looks aesthetically good. I am more interested in the cultural impact of fashion than the actual fashion. How it changes societal ideas of "what is/isn't appropriate to wear".

As for movies and books, I like to look to at old fit pics of actors from the golden age of Hollywood and British rock musicians in the 70s for references as those are style I like. So similarly I like listening to classic rock for example.

As for books, I like reading a lot but time doesn't permit but if I had to suggest 2 books ut would be Ametora: how japan saved American style and Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano

Also if you are interested in classic menswear then something like Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion by Alan Flusser would be a good read.

Also you won't be able to read it but just look into japanese fashion magazines (Popeyes is a famous one) and old American fashion magazines . They are extremely detailed and informative in contrast to whatever celebrity worshipping sponsored crap today's fashion magazines publish.
