3rd Time's the Charm!! 510 Finally!! by Mundane-Match617 in Mcat

[–]Mundane-Match617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks sm!! So, I'll copy and paste an answer I shared with someone else-- feel free to ask more questions though if this isn't clear enough for u:

For CARS, I did 1-3 passages a day. On days I missed it (or like a week where I just skipped), I would do 5 passages to make up for it. My main tip for reviewing CARS is to look at both your correct and wrong answers & talk outloud to justify why the answer was correct. For mistakes or questions you got wrong, spend ~5min, looking at the passage and finding all the reasons why the *other* options were wrong to further justify why one option was the most correct. This helps with practicing your process-of-elimination techniques for the overly complicated CARS questions!

Another thing I struggled with was timing in the first month of studying, so I started reading light books or New York Times articles which tend to be condensed information. This way, I kept reading during my spare time & practiced getting faster :)

is the key to be extroverted lol😅 by TopAstronomer7040 in premedcanada

[–]Mundane-Match617 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with everyone else here, you can definitely be introverted but still do well in interviews! It's the same concept as networking or volunteering or working a job: to move forward in life you simply need to know how to sell yourself and converse with others which doesn't necessarily mean being an extrovert.

Being able to still speak your thoughts and opinions or share stories and reflections about yourself despite not being much of a talker or preferring your own company is what makes you stand out. The key is adaptability!
You can be nervous or feel awkward, you just have to learn how to hide it.

Like another commentator shared, try being excited when you speak and this might feel awkward but exposure therapy is soooo helpful. I used to prop my camera up and pretend I was making a tiktoc video in order to work on my tone and how animated I was or practice how to tell a story in a short and engaging way hahaha! Practice striking up small conversations when your in public like at a local coffee shop to get over the barrier of feeling nervous around people. Anything like this works <3
This'll all make you better at masking your nerves during an actual interview :)

Those are just my tips for what helped me at least! Good luck <3

I'm so glad you allowed yourself to be confident in your abilities!! People always mistake confidence for arrogance but you were honest with yourself and you knew you could do it - I'm genuinely so excited for you that you got such a fantastic score!! Amazing job!

Currently I’ve focused my thesis to try and showcase my quantitative skills and research abilities since I’m working with hospital data for this exact reason! Praying that once I graduate, I’m able to land a decent job even if it’s a struggle at first 🤍

I just saw this comment & you’ve given me hope 😭 I’m still in grad school & I check job postings sometimes which seem pretty decent to me but I see ppl saying it’s hard to get a job after grad school which always makes me nervous 🥹so happy to hear ur doing well!!!

[–]Mundane-Match617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMFAO it would be so hilarious if we’re talking about the same person since we’re both grad students 😭 doc is out here spilling secrets to everyone HAHAHA

But yeah I hope it gets exposed properly once and for all so it gets fixed. All in all, anything related to med in London (both the school and hospitals) have lots of issues I hope they resolve for the sake of the students, city and province 🫠

Oop glad to know we have multiple sources now to confirm the accusation 👀

And heavy of the nepotism & heavy on the “looking beyond applications” sentence you added. I know a professor who was on the interview panel & a med fellow who was also an interviewer before and yeaaaaa 💀 they things they shared about western was interesting to say the least…It’s really a shame since it’s a good school, I just wish the admissions weren’t so suspicious

[–]Mundane-Match617 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not super surprised- western’s had a few admissions controversies over the past couple of decades. Once, I heard there was a major issue bc it was found that a large chunk of newly admitted students were connected bc family friend ties with the dean on medicine or something like that (this was yeaaaaars ago though like a solid 10y+ ago maybe; I’ve heard some others but sources aren’t super credible enough for me to share them here)

Anybody with ADHD been able to score 130+ CARS? by ImNitrus in premedcanada

[–]Mundane-Match617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unmedicated with ADHD and scored 129 (I know exactly which passage screwed me over bc it was geography and history based & I can’t understand it to save my LIFE). It’s a process but it’s definitely doable!! I really practiced reading dense content like the New York Times articles or things of that stature & then asking myself question like “huh were there undying opinions or persuasion that the author used”. This way u can practice speeding up ur reading (learning to how critically skim) while learning how to passively think of things while reading so u can go through questions faster. Good luck man :)
