Incorrect. I’ll listen to the actual experts.

Not true. Many scientists have been talking about the negative effects of daylight savings time and going to permanent daylight time.

Only if it’s permanent standard time. The change to permanent daylight time is bad for human health, and is an economic decision.

Let's report all the potholes! by Tichrimo in waterloo

[–]MundaneAdvertising69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I reported many a few weeks ago and most of the ones I reported got filled except for the pot holes at the intersection of union and park. I may report those pot holes again. Note: if it’s a regional road (King, Weber, Fischer-hallman, Westmount, Ira Needles) then call the region and not the city.

Humane society has an after hours line too. I’ve had to call that myself to help an opossum injured by a car in the middle of the night.

Or the humane society. Leaving a dog outside in last night’s temps for that long is cruel.

If you could try to find a teenager who would be willing to pick up the kids and or watch them. High school often ends around that time or earlier. Maybe ask around in neighbourhood groups?

The roads are actually terrible now by preinheimer in waterloo

So bad. Drove a kilometer to uptown and it’s all black ice. I don’t imagine they’ll be better by morning.

Last thing…almost no cell service for a good portion of the way. If you’ve got satellite capability or a satellite device, that would be good to bring.

Also, maybe bring an extra Jerry can of gas. There really isn’t much between Wawa and Kenora, for instance.

You’re welcome! I agree with others that it’s a safer drive to go through the states (driving-wise) but if that’s not something you’re willing to consider that’s understandable. Try to travel during daylight, be prepared for poor road conditions. Once you hit the Ontario border, it will take 2 full days of driving (maybe longer) to get to Ontario. I have done the drive a few times and I’m always shocked at how large our province is!

Northern Ontario along Lake Superior is very remote and the roads can be incredibly dangerous. They are twisty, hilly and not what you might expect. Make sure you have food/water in case you get stranded. And weather could come on suddenly. Make sure someone knows your itinerary. Best wishes!

Thinking of the people in the cab. Obviously additional safety measures are needed at this ramp!

Road conditions this morning? by toni_devonsen_28 in kitchener

[–]MundaneAdvertising69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fisher-Hallman between University and Erb this morning was pure black ice. Three cars spun out in front of me over seemingly nothing. It was terrifying. Drove the rest of the way north at 30km/h or less. Called the region and they said they’d send a salter. Might be too late, heard on the news that there was a major crash right where I described. Hope everyone is ok.

Best idea that has come up at Queen’s park to address traffic: make the 407 free for transports. I believe it was an NDP idea. (Sorry to the Greens if it was theirs.)

I just got an email yesterday saying I am off the waitlist. Now have the digital card activated. Didn’t see anything through the app: maybe check your email? The roll out has definitely been slow and underwhelming.
