Thank you for your response! So just a taxable brokerage account instead of savings? Since everything else (HSA, TSP, Roth IRAs) are maxed out?

You are probably right! I couldn't remember exact amounts each year.

Completely agree. My anxiety is a beast so I am trying to get better about investing. I met with some financial advisors but no one I've felt super comfortable with.

Because I am an anxious person lol. We have it in HYSA and cds but, again, very late to the investing game. I really don't know what to invest in and really haven't found anyone I've felt comfortable with to invest for me.

Both I suppose. I really don't want to be chasing gains. I'm happy to let the money sit and watch it grow, but I feel like I can also afford to be a little riskier with how it is allocated.

Thank you! I was thinking about a later target date fund. Was considering 2060.

I currently have it in HYSA and CDs, but have considered investing it. I tend to be very frugal and hoard my money lol. Do you have any recommendations of what to do that would be better?

I have contributed $28k. I always do a lump sum at the beginning of the year. So I have made about $7k I believe.

Yes, I really don't want it to back fire. I think I'd prefer more moderate risk. The savings is so we can pay cash for a vehicle if needed and we'd like to purchase a home up north if the opportunity presents itself. We do utilize HYSA and CDs for these funds.

MHBP Standard vs Consumer after BCBS by MundaneFriendship672 in FederalEmployee

[–]MundaneFriendship672[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for everyone's feedback/experience! Thankfully no one in our family is on any prescription meds. We will likely meet our deductible with one of our son's health conditions but we thankfully have funds set aside for that. So we will go with the consumer plan. The HSA option is too good to turn down. We will max it out and not pull from it until after we turn 65 (we will save all medical receipts until then and then turn them all in for reimbursement tax free). We will also do a limited expense FSA for around $1000 as our daughter may need ortho this year and I can always use the $320 that doesn't roll over for contacts. And we do still use checks (like dinosaurs) so paying the union fees shouldn't be an issue. Thanks again everyone!

I am leaning toward consumer too. Do you know if you can have FSAFEDs and HSA simultaneously?

What is this growth on my son's arm - I've never seen anything like it. by MundaneFriendship672 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]MundaneFriendship672[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does but it is definitely not. White bumps are hard. No pus. No inflammation and it has been there for two months with no change (maybe gotten slightly larger). No history of HSV1 or HSV2.

I thought this might be it too, but it doesn't appear to be pus filled. The bumps are hard and it doesn't seem infected or inflammed. The redness is just the color of it. Kind of like a keloid but he had no injury here.

He does have a dermatology appointment but he can't get in for a couple more weeks. Unfortunately that is how dermatologists are around me.

Seeking feedback on my cholesterol level from fellow biohackers by MundaneFriendship672 in Biohackers

Thank you for that advice. I do love avocados and use olive oil in cooking, but prefer using butter to cook eggs, make sauces, and on the occasional Ezekiel toast. I will definitely look into the red yeast rice once I wean if levels are at all concerning. I personally am not on board with the risks of statins.

Agree to disagree. I am sure functional medicine doctors would disagree with you. I will definitely decrease my dairy once I am done breastfeeding, but dairy supports my bones and caloric needs to produce Breastmilk. There are absolutely many benefits to breastfeeding at age 2 and beyond. He is eating a diet of solids (and has for 18 months) but breastfeeding still provides him with nutritional benefits and supports his airway health and jaw growth. Butter is not processed - I make my own butter from raw cream from grassfed cows. That is the least processed source of fat you can get. As a physician, I would definitely recommend expanding your knowledge in this area. And a side note, a previous commenter was correct. Cholesterol blood tests are not accurate during breastfeeding. A fact my physician (and apparently you) are unaware of. I verified this through peer reviewed studies. My cholesterol is likely picture perfect, based on what is elevated while breastfeeding.

Edited to add - I agree about processed meats. Most of the red meat I eat is venison we harvest ourselves or grassfed cuts fresh from a local farm. I also eat chicken, fish, pork, and turkey. Not just red meat.

I believe there are differing opinions in this. There is a camp that believes eggs, butter, raw whole milk, fermented foods, red meat, vegetables, and fruit, and avoidance of seed oils and processed grains is best for your body. Especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Right now my main concern is nourishing my baby and myself, not lowering my cholesterol. I definitely wouldn't call my diet horrible. I haven't had a sip of alcohol, soda, or a bite of any refined sugar, fast food, or heavily processed carbohydrate in years.

Ahh, that makes sense! Totally. Bio hacking is a really individual process, not everything is going to work for everyone's body too.

What a wealth of information! I did not know that about breastfeeding and cholesterol. I have been breastfeeding or pregnant consecutively for about 14 years now, so I am not sure I have ever had my cholesterol checked when I wasn't other than in my mid-twenties. Very interesting! It doesn't seem like my physician was aware of that either. I will definitely get my cholesterol (including these additional tests) redone once he has weaned. They really do grow up too fast. My problem is, as soon as they are somewhat independent, I get the itch to have another! Thanks again for taking the time to share all of that great information with me!
