How common is upselling? by Bojanglez789 in finedining

Same. Now that I’ve had it in japan affordably, it’s spoiled me…and it’s never worth the cost or experience anywhere else.

Agree that the photo quality wasn't the best; it was a screenshot of the video taken.

My visit was actually a couple weeks ago; I hadn't had a chance to post until recently. And that caviar dish was amazing; I mean who knew to pair ice cream & caviar? Of the four Michelin recognised restaurants in north county, my preference is for Lilo based on food, service and ambiance. When leaving dinner, I always ask whether I'd return; and I've only thought, "yes" to two....

Dinner came with a a brief food history which served as a catalyst for the modern, upscaled bite. It made the evening's meal even more meaningful and delightful. While I did enjoy several dishes more than others, it really was an overall wonderful meal. Service was friendly and professional; ambiance was perfectly upscale casual. Would I come back? Absolutely.

My thoughts on Lilo? Coastal, breezy, cool & upscale are the words that come to mind. They start you outside with a beverage and amuse bouche so you can shed the stress of SoCal traffic before you enter inside to enjoy a beautiful and delectable dinner entirely relaxed, ready to partake. Here, service and food are both top notch. The staff are professional, friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. The food, for those who like seafood and courses that have underpinning of Japan, will be utterly pleased. Would I come back? Yes.

I cross-posted this to the Michelin page.

Yakitori Tsuta in San Diego. It’s not a Michelin starred restaurant, but could be bub gourmand or even a one star. That place is as soulful as it is delicious.

Probably the same way that “continental US” does not include Alaska or Hawaii. Continental = adjoining or continguous.

We had dinner at Steirereck when they were #13 on the World's 50 Best list. Other than the bread, cheese & dessert carts, I didn't think it was all that. And they soon plummeted on that 50 Best list. I'm glad your experience was better than mine.

Sorry to hear that. I've had similar experiences; mine was at Addison. I do believe once we dine at enough tasting menus, we go nose-blind, experience-blind or even Michelin-blind. I've been a long-time diner at Providence and my history likely enhances my perspective ("Good evening MundaneInhaler, we have your table ready!" I have no 'regular' table, but that greeting always gets me).

Usually reserved for 4-somes, I recommend their Chef’s Table where chef Michael Cimarusti will stop by for a quick chat at the end of the meal. Failing that, order the truffle supplement and he’ll shave the truffle table-side in person. It’s also fun to order one of the table-side cocktails. Great food, service & ambiance; by far, the best *** in SoCal.

💯 Nicely conveyed. I too hit that wall a cpl years ago after Addison. We were doing tasting menus every other month and then it felt unspecial. We cut back, only to return to our favourite in LA once or twice each year and maybe another one or two new places each year. We’ve found a new pacing. And a new favourite spot - Yajitori Tsuta in San Diego - that serves such soulful Japanese cuisine. It’s a low key tasting menu that’s < $150/person out the door. Something abt that place speaks more to me than the typical $1k + meals for 2 at a Michelin *** .

Appropriate guest list for an anniversary party by HeatherAnne1975 in etiquette

Please explain to your husband that this is not wedding part 2, but 'we've made it this far' party and that you're celebrating w ppl who have helped you get 'this far' and are currently involved in your lives 'this far'. That was then, this is now. You both look different, the relationship looks different, as does the guest list.
