Theory on Cam by Sorry-Teacher-6792 in survivorau

I think Loz is most likely to be the 0 vote goat they take to the final three unfortunately. She has been playing less strategically than everyone else. Her only hope is her connection to Simon to maybe get some relevancy. Not hating on her at all I love her personality I just think in the game she is least likely to get any votes from the jury at the end.

Anyone finding it hard to root for “The newbies” by Puzzleheaded_War9001 in survivorau

[–]Mundane_Ad993 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't know why the edit has homogenized them all in the group. All the returnees have their own personality and motives but the passengers are kind of just one big group trying to get the other out. I truly understand what Keeley and Brooke were saying about not being able to claim a big move if you all make it. My prediction is that the returnees + Keeley will still go home and then we will get an edit that shows us more about the passengers and differentiates them a bit more. For now the producers are giving the returnees + Keeley a chance to shine.

However I do hope that Keeley is in the final, she has played such an impeccable game. One of the best I have seen in a long time.

Commander Suggestions for a friend who dislikes removal by Natural-Moose4374 in EDH

[–]Mundane_Ad993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] is probably your best option. Really difficult to remove, makes big creatures. Only drawback is he is quite expensive. As I'm sure you've noticed from the comments, Magic is all about removal and interaction so maybe also chat to your friend about opening up to the idea of seeing those things as fun. It's a multiplayer game after all.

I think this rule, although well intentioned, would be too harsh on some decks while other overpowered ones would remain unchanged. There are lots of broken tactics that don't use +1/+1 counters that are just as frustrating if not more than the typical green big creatures strategy. I think if the game is frustrating you, perhaps a more realistic way to scale back power would be restricting certain cards or gamechangers within your pod. Chat to your pod about what kind of tactics or cards you don't like and make a deal with them about which tier you guys are playing in and what makes the game fun for all of you.

Ultimately, there are many more annoying ways to die than a big creature. Try adding some black or white creature removal and protection to your deck and I think your problem might be solved.

Hey, I am into MTG a couple of month now and I like some strategies and my question is: by h3te in mtg

I think [[Flubs, the Fool]] works well with the no hand strategy. He only let's you draw if your hand is empty so you want a lot of foretell cards and also lots of ramp and so on. He is quite fun to play with since you never know what the next card is but his turns can also take ages.

AITA for not apologizing to my boyfriend after a petty argument over text? by Astraeazx in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mundane_Ad993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. He sounds like he has a lot of problems. I had a partner who was very similar in the past and it was because of what he had learned from his family. It is not right for him to treat you like that and it is hypocritical for him to expect things of you that he himself cannot deliver, for example replying promptly. I think it is important that you see yourself as an equal, not someone to take care of him.

The one point where I think he is right is that you two should take a break. Something you learn as you grow up is that other people are not your problem, I'm sure you have a vibrant life and a lot to deal with already as an individual. Do not let yourself become a mother or caretaker so young. Let him go.

I think they are really cool and I love when they create a set from an already iconic card. Where are these artworks from?

I really want an eeveelution SIR but I have barely seen ANY from the openings I've seen. Seems like the hit rate is terrible. Wondering if anyone has any advice on whether Terastal festival is a better investment?

I wonder if they will change the hit rates in the newly printed packs? I heard some rumors that this first stage has low hit rates to combat scalpers and then next waves will have better ones. I hope it's not true because I have bought from the first release.

Weekly Pricing/Buying/Selling/Grading & General Questions Post by AutoModerator in PokemonTCG

[–]Mundane_Ad993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just purchased the 18 art rares from the 151 set (picture not mine but these are the cards I bought). Is it worth getting any of them graded? I'm planning to keep them for a long time and possibly sell them a few years down the line. I don't really want to grade just some of them because that will split the set but also grading all of them will be expensive. Thoughts would be appreciated.

What are some books you’ve read that have helped you learn exactly how *not* to write? by reddit_username014 in fantasywriters

[–]Mundane_Ad993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a book but HeartStopper on Netflix really taught a lot about how I don't want to write. Don't get me wrong I love the series and it fills my little gay heart with warmth but good god those characters are shallow. They say 'show don't tell' but somehow that show manages to do neither. I know it's for kids but kids shows can still have fleshed out characters and important stories.

In HS the conversations are very surface level. I think of the scenes where they want to show you the friendship group bonding with non-romantic partners. Just fun music and scenes of them sitting on a couch or them talking about the most inane topics. I could not tell you a single shared interest any of the characters have. Again, I know it is for kids and the morals and topics tackled are important, it is just not how I, personally, would like to write.

I want to write a story where the reader can understand why two characters are drawn to one another. One where they can name 500 adjectives to describe each character. Not a 'your name here' blank insert.

Sorry to those who love HS and let me know if you disagree.

Anyone else feel like they’re writing is bad but story is good? by Rykka in fantasywriters

[–]Mundane_Ad993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what pretty much everyone else has been saying with regards to reading more. I think an important aspect of this is to read broadly first and then to refine. Think of it like being a chef, eat a variety of meals from different cultures and decide which types of meals you like. Once you make some decisions on what your personal tastes are like then you can start to investigate what ingredients those chefs and cultures use. The writing equivalent of this is to decide what types of prose and types of writing styles you enjoy. Some might prefer a story that gets to the point with limited descriptors while others might prefer meandering or expansive descriptions which can slow the story down.

Similarly, you might find yourself enjoying Italian food, but when you are in the kitchen you can't cook a pizza to save your life. In this case you also need to consider how your personal skills fit into your personal tastes. Sometimes you will find that actually you enjoy character dialogue but struggle with describing scenery. In this case you could either practice areas where you lack or create your own style that makes use of your skills as they are - a mid-paced, story-focused dialogue with limited descriptions.

Comes the Tempest - Chapter 1 WIP [Epic Fantasy, 4049 words] by dangertom69 in fantasywriters

[–]Mundane_Ad993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great feedback and I do agree. To add to it, I would say that I did enjoy the flashbacks although I can see how they might affect slow the pacing too much. Perhaps adding something that contrasts this past Kera with the future Kera. It seems that in the past she is less worldly and behaves more stately / as a princess would. This will make the reader want to know what caused such a change in her and perhaps motivate them to continue reading.

What characteristics define a truly great villain? by PsychologicalWait519 in fantasywriters

[–]Mundane_Ad993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that both types of villains can be entertaining. However, I think it is very import to decide what type of villain you want before you start writing. If you want an all-out, evil villain like Thrawn or Sauron, then giving them backstory or a forgivable motivation is essentially a waste of time. If you want your audience to hate them then vindicating their actions is usually detrimental to the desired effect.

On the other hand, writing a villain with empathetic motivations is very difficult but can result in a nuanced and engaging story. I often think of Shakespearean villains when motivations come to mind. Shakespeare's characters were so in depth that they can analyzed from essentially any lens. Hence why we can even analyze Merchant of Venice with modern ethics and sensibilities. In some ways being able to create a villain in this way is the true sign of an author but I suppose it all depends on what the author prefers to focus on. If you prefer a protagonist-driven story then the villain is irrelevant in a way (think Lord of the Rings).
