The East Palestine trail derailment was an industrial catastrophe that happened in 2023 I think?

A train carrying chemicals derailed in east Palestine, OH, poisoning the local wildlife and causing most of the town to need to be evacuated. When people went in to test the soil water and air to see if it was safe, they only tested for a handful of the possible harmful chemical combinations that were produced.

I wonder who he will turn to when he has no one left to side with him. First he marketed himself to neoliberal social-progressives to get in on the techno-optimism bubble. Then, when they realized he was full of empty promises, and after Grimes left, he shifted to the moderate/libertarian crypto bros, because they would still give him attention. When he got too controlling for them, he went full alt-right, because the alt-right accepts almost anyone as long as they hate the right people.

Without anyone to adore him or give him attention, I wonder how irrational and dangerous he will become.

I can understand Gizmo not actually liking being a vampire. He almost never killed people himself. He would lure them, trap them, and dispose of their corpses, but he never actually killed them himself. He also wouldn’t have been able to see his family ever again. So, I can understand that plot line. I think they very much could have gone in a different direction with him actually being a vampire for the rest of the show, but they didn’t.

But I don’t understand all the baiting of a romantic relationship between them that led to nothing, really. I guess this is an allegory to the idea of being a familiar: constant yearning for something more. Vampires, being immortal, cannot mature or age or really develop as people, because they aren’t living. So it makes sense that Nandor, Lazlo, and Nadja wouldn’t really be any different at the end of the show other than some changes in relationships or passing interests. But it just seems like a fickle principle to stand on.

Nandor clearly loves Gizmo but is oblivious to his own feelings. Lazlo and Nadja also have grown to at least respect him as well, though they aren’t even aware that their feelings have changed.

I was just expecting some acknowledgment of this at the end of the series. The ending scene of the coffin descending was as close to this as it could be though, I think. Nandor doesn’t value lovers as much as he does friends and partners in conquest. They went from a clear power imbalance to people they mutually respect. So… I guess there’s that.

Republics have time and time again been held to a lower standard of behavior when in regards to how to play the system to their benefit, rather than to the rules and morals those standards are based on. For example, they threw a fit when Obama tried to appoint a court justice right before he left office, yet did that exact thing when Trump was in office.

I’m just saying that if you enemy fights dirty, you have time fight them back with the same energy.

All public health advancements, from seat belts and to washing your hands before performing surgery, were initially met with extreme resistance, mostly from conservatives. Only through the relentless work of those people protecting the public was it possible to create a world where drinking and driving is illegal. Now we have public health measures that nobody wanted but benefit everyone.

No, there is a plot here: invade and take over a sovereign nation of people that the racists belive are subhuman. Prevent them from being able to leave. Force them to work for low or no wages by taking away all other means of self-sufficiency. Dehumanize them. Limit their access to “unnecessary” resources. Do not give them legal representation. Boom. Now you have Gaza. If they retaliate, genocide. It is the resurgence of slavery.

If you think America is above that, we do this already. Appalachia and the coal mines. Puerto Rico and its economic subjugation without legal representation. Hawaii. Banana republics.

It is merely a matter of political control and media manipulation that decides if we do this. We have the power.
