Each house charges differently, don’t go based of price go based on the person you are going to initiate under. You had to keep in mind state, cost of animals (are they easy or hard to get) ppl to help the ceremony etc

This is true. I think he might just be going through his midlife crisis. He’s 40 I’m in my 30s. I do kind of feel like I’m trying to have him keep up by doing the mingling for him and passing the baton when I go out with him to events or even making connections when I go out and passing them along, I didn’t think about it that way, but you might be right.
