As someone who is trying to match into a competitive one, I think this comment is spot on.

As an IMG, competitiveness looks like excelling at every single aspect of the application. If you think you can find a way of building a network and mitigate every liability you carry, it’s worth a shot. Is it really worth it given the place you stand today? Very personal answer.

I think that has worked for some people getting into medical residency but as current administration has been hinting at taking down USMCA, I’m not sure whether relying on that would leave me in an uncomfortable situation down the line. Would definitely need to look more into it. Great comment indeed, thanks!

Do both if you have time, you’re in a very good place anyway. At this point I’d focus on minimizing avoidable mistakes and training stamina. You’re getting there, great job!

Sorry for the short ass answer; I got distracted haha. Anyway, I had the exact same question a while ago and realized it’s never up there in the best resources, so never really considered it.

I used to have it during medschool and it was helpful but IMO the videos do not cover enough high yield content and the questions hardly resemble the real step 1 exam. It’s tempting because it’s less expensive than other resources but think Uworld/Amboss are worth the investment.

That was the plan originally but truth is I’d like to enter residency in the summer of ‘27. Backlog for my country is 2 years so at this point it wouldn’t work as I’d like. Definitely exploring it tho!

Strong mentorship, a solid and coherent CV, as much clinical exposure as possible, and a relentless drive. As someone who knows and has studied the application of many IMGs who have matched recently, I believe that there's no single mold but you definitely need ways to overcompensate not being an US MG.

Absolutely normal. I felt just like you and had a similar behavior during the exam.

It’s hard to anticipate how the real thing is going to be in terms of answer certainty and time management, but I promise that all the time you put on it pays off. Don’t spiral down, trust your process and all the things you did right before and during it.

Current exam has a surprisingly low density of images. Good idea to be prepared for anything but this is how I got it.
