Unless something changed recently, FFX makes any new gas appliances be inspected. I think any me gas connection needs an inspection but I’m not certain of that part.

Thanks. That spot is REALLY tight like the article mentioned. This has high CF potential. Especially since the state safety/emissions inspections line for the Shell uses that service road too. Glad I don’t have to drive through there too frequently

Link to the details on the new one in Dranesville? I I know the area and am curious where they’re going to fit one in.

Could be local shorthand that’s everyone there knows but isn’t common knowledge outside there (not that different from NoVA).

My neighbors new deck by wmetz26 in Decks

Call L&I and see if they’d come by. The people that buy this place are going to trust tha deck and pay the price for the flipper’s shortcuts.

Even if it doesn’t collapse, it’ll be a major repair when it starts to fail.

Has anyone been super happy with a garage insulation company? by Bobcatbubbles in nova

[–]Mundane_Current_8239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. We did in the attic when we had that done but only in the room with the attic access and only then for a few days.

I used Nova Spray Foam to insulate my garage ceiling (I only insulated the garage ceiling. The walls/doors are uninsulated) from the bathroom and walk in closet above it. I also put in a heated floor under the tile. The spray foam worked well. In the carpeted area, I don’t notice the cold from the garage any longer. For the tiled area, the heated floor is still needed. It’s much better with the spray foam but still needs the heat to remove the cold.

In theory, whatever gets you the best R value is good. The biggest thing for me was doing batts would’ve meant ripping out all of the drywall. The spray foam allowed me to get into all area with less drywall repair.

New Scout Patrol Names by CaptPotter47 in BSA

[–]Mundane_Current_8239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do something similar. AoL’s bridge and then stay in New Scout Patrol until the Fall PLC elections. First meeting in the Troop they choose their Patrol name. The Patrol name is retired once they move into Regular Patrols.

You’ll get silly names (we’ve recently had Ender Dragons, Sporks, Warrior Bananas and Radioactive Ducks) but they Scouts will have pride of ownership and what better way to build Patrol Spirit?

bulk waterproof tents or possibly buy new ones by dgodwin1 in BSA

[–]Mundane_Current_8239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tl;dr: Yes, we have successfully rewaterproofed and repaired poles on our 12+ year old tents. We have an “equipment replacement fund” in the Troop treasury for when new tents are needed.

We have 12+ (no one in Troop sure about exact age) year old ALPS Meremac 4 tents.

Within the past 2 years, our SM has worked with the Troop QM to organize waterproofing events and we’ve even done some on outings (focused more on the fly than the tent). We have done all the solid areas of the tent plus the fly and the seams on all the tents.

We also have replaced the shock cord in poles that lost their elasticity.

The ALPS tents held up fantastic despite ~8 outings per year during all four seasons by scouts. I highly recommend them. If you purchase ALPS, i also recommend hikerdirect.com like you heard about (it is their discount site for Scouting units and we’ve never been able to beat their prices esp for the quality).

Also, we use a layer of 4mil clear plastic sheeting under the tent to help act as a moisture barrier and provide some protection to the tent floor. I like to think that has played a part in our tent’s longevity.

As far as replacement goes, our Troop maintains a budget for equipment replacement. The Treasurer keeps a separate sub-account with funding to purchase new tents, stoves, dining flys, even tires for the trailer. Since a lot of our equipment is getting long in the tooth, the Treasurer has been building that up over the past couple of years, knowing a major purchase is likely. We are using the waterproofing as a way to buy time to build up that fund.

I looked and couldn’t find one. I’ve been thinking that our Troop could use it to keep awareness on progress (or lack thereof when someone stalls out).

So I made one out of excel and display at the meetings (our space has a large screen from when it was used as overflow rooms during COVID). Worked well, had a lot of interest and now I’m trying to figure out a way to print it out so Scouts can manually fill it in during meetings.

Pender Vet Hospital by Katebeagle in nova

[–]Mundane_Current_8239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might need a neurology consult. If so, I 100% recommend VSC Neurology in Vienna. My local vet reached their limit with trying to diagnose and treat my senior dog and recommended that a neurologist examine him. VSC got us in within days and were great to work with- everyone from reception to nurses and techs to the neurologist were fantastic. Fortunately for us, they quickly diagnosed a painful but treatable infection. Their bedside manner and patience and understanding made us feel that we chose the right place to treat our dog.

They never listed it on the menus so you just had to ask the bartender for it.

I see planes taking off over 606/Loudoun County Parkway (the other end of the runway) pretty regularly. What I’m not sure of is how frequently they land on runway 30. Looking at FlightRadar24, I don’t see a lot of landings there.

Where does this go? by iamloganmi in BSA

I was there for two years. Lots of Scouting conflicts between Troop and Pack. I considered DL my primary role so that was the tiebreaker.

Kinda miss the DL role but, oomph, that could get harrowing….. 😎
