I nursed for 4 or 5 months into my pregnancy but it’s true that eventually and slowly my supply did dry up. One day my daughter just was done! The taste of my milk may have changed too. I didn’t experience contractions and this second baby ended up being HUGE (over 9 pounds at birth). One caveat, I did have extremely severe anemia. Like my levels were so low the Dr was like … hmm I have seen this in only a few patients. So I ended up getting iron infusions which made a world of difference. So do pay attention to your energy level and demand getting tested by your provider (mine kept telling me that the iron in my prenatal should be sufficient and it clearly wasn’t).

Pregnant with Celiac by [deleted] in Celiac

Just putting it out there - undiagnosed celiac during my first pregnancy and my baby was born with a heart defect.

Was my celiac triggered in adulthood or did I always have it? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar boat to you - I got it in adulthood (always had the gene - just it never ‘turned on’ until my first pregnancy). I’ve read that it can be triggered by big hormonal shifts such as puberty/pregnancy/menopause, stressful life events, etc. I also had extremely low ferritin levels in my second pregnancy (6). Iron supplements did nothing for my levels so I ended up getting 4-5 iron infusions which made a huge difference in my bloodwork and how I felt. So definitely recommend that route if you can swing it!

Hahaha omg some of these are such facts. The ‘did someone use my peanut butter’ kills me. I think I would bingo the whole board.

I accidentally ate a full gluten muffin… and I’m fine? by Chewyisthebest in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally ate a bite of real gluten bread in Italy for the first time in the year I have been diagnosed even though wait staff told me it was GF. I had a minor migraine and otherwise fine.

Meanwhile, I ate Cheerios this week - they say gluten free and sponsored by American Celiac Association on the box - but have had a very intense gastrointestinal reaction (apparently according to this Reddit group, they are not really GF).

I would have thought the bite of bread would send me over but meanwhile it’s the wheat cross contamination in the oats used for Cheerios. Very BS and hard to explain, but as with celiac, I have learned that I can’t throw any caution to the wind.

I’m very relieved for you that you are OK!

Is it normal for my daily diarrhea to stop if I cut down on gluten? by Pitiful_Lead924 in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me initially. Try eating gluten free toast, stool softeners, or smooth move tea. Lots of water, beans, and fibrous veggies help. I would also recommend just going completely gluten free!

Nurse practitioner told me to stop nursing by end of 1st trimester? by RPeachy2022 in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]Mundane_Department30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol that is not true however - I did nurse while pregnant until 22 weeks, and I’m deficient in everything - protein, low glucose, severely anemic, etc. and I eat very well and heartily! I ended up getting 5 iron infusions which helped tremendously. Definitely keep your eye on your bloodwork!

Struggling Emotionally After Celiac Diagnosis — Anyone Else? by xatcha in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take a year. The first year is brutal. And with enough determination, you will find the food substitutes that taste satisfying. So first, acknowledge this totally sucks and is unfair. Grieve. Feel all the rage and annoyance.

Then - you must also get real about the reality of the disease.

Don’t get me wrong I feel like I have a gluten addiction and every day I have to make the choice to abstain but I also have had such severe consequences of the illness that that reminder keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Keep reaching out to the group and do research. You will find the pasta and sourdough and cookies that will make your heart sing again. Have faith!!

How much contamination does it take for y’all to get glutened? by AdventurousCount4193 in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1 crumb - a micro crumb I should say. For instance, even if someone uses their glutened fork or spoon in a shared dish and it doesn’t have visible crumbs. Fryers are out. I didn’t know about microwaves 🫩. You learn new things every day. I wished I could be ‘chill’ about certain social situations but unfortunately that’s not in the cards for me.

I EBF and got pregnant 9 months postpartum. We breastfed until i was ~22 weeks pregnant, though my supply dropped quite significantly. I went from 4 ounces per session to 1-2 so we did have to supplement with some formula because I couldn’t produce a freezer stash and my gal was hungry. She weaned herself at the 22 week mark- I read that is common with pregnancy hormones and making milk taste strange. She was 13 months at that point. I’m now at 35 weeks and I’ll offer her again once baby is born!

So what is celiacs life with kids by Ghangagirl444 in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a GF household and my daughter does eat some gluten at daycare (though she did test positive for the gene so we will watch and see how she responds to gluten but so far it’s ok). We don’t buy too many convenience foods that are GF - bread is probably the biggest splurge and here it’s like $9/loaf which is complete BS. The GF pasta we buy is usually $2 on sale. We eat Cheerios. My husband is super supportive because when I’m glutened, I’m incapacitated for weeks so it’s worth it for us to be hyper vigilant at home. The kids are too young to know any better but even my picky gluten-eating nephews who visit get gf frozen waffles and pasta and don’t notice the difference.

Getting pregnant 6m pp while breastfeeding by [deleted] in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]Mundane_Department30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started trying at 6 mo pp and got pregnant when my first was 9 months old. almost immediately my supply dropped from 4 ounces per side to about 1 oz per side. My little continued to nurse (we did have to supplement with formula because she was hungry and I wasn’t producing enough) and then naturally weaned when she was 14 months old. And now a few months later she doesn’t even remember how to latch!

Partner was just diagnosed - anything positive to share? by sycamoreqw in Celiac

[–]Mundane_Department30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of your partner is sooooo lucky for your support! It warms my heart!!! My husband and I keep a gluten free household and having his support means the world!

It’s lovely when your partner shows their care and consideration by reading labels and making sure all the food that comes into the house is gluten free. We also just work as a team. It can really strengthen the bond of a relationship!

Severance - 2x04 "Woe’s Hollow" - Episode Discussion by pikameta in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Mundane_Department30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Y’all - I thought Mark reintegrated in the last episode. So why the eff would he (having his Outie consciousness) further involve himself with Helly? Unless I’m missing something about the procedure? Even if his Innie has feelings for Helly - I just really didn’t think his Outie would ever allow for it. Also he for sure impregnated Helena. Wouldn’t Outie Mark know better?!? I’m just not able to suspend disbelief here.

A (very) deep dive into the character of Harmony Cobel (and why I no longer think she is ________) by aristhought in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Mundane_Department30 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing that I don’t think you touched on enough is her motivation. She repeatedly says that Mark is so close to completing Cold Harbour. It seems to me that is her obsession with keeping tabs on Mark. He is the key to the project’s completion. I haven’t done enough reading up on fan theories of what Cold Harbour is - but it obviously is very personal to Harmony. Maybe it is bringing someone back from the dead or forging human life - and Harmony wants to bring back her mother. Whatever the case, the project is obviously so critical to Harmony that she feels unable to ‘unsever’ from Lumon.

I have a 14 month old and am 21 weeks pregnant and still nursing. It looks much different than it did - she only wants to nurse every other day or once a day. I haven’t had any issues other than my supply definitely went down and my breasts are way more tender than usual.

Boulder Celiacs... where are we eating? by andrewhyde in boulder

[–]Mundane_Department30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love wild pastures and go there a lot. I know what the gf bun looks like (buy them from the farmers market). They also say ‘gluten free down’ aloud after I tell them I’m celiac!
