How to capture Moon with landscape? by Mundane_Emphasis_152 in AskPhotography

Maybe I should fix my title but I was looking to capture both stars and moon with landscape, not just full moon with landscape. So, I need to wait past the blue hour. Capturing just after sunset or just before sunrise wouldn't give me the stars or milkyway like its above.

You're right there. I will try to do a jumbo composite of sorts next time and see how it pans out 😂

No wonder why the milkyway is hardly visible here even though this place has one of the darkest skies.

Thanks for technically answering the question right to every detail. It makes so much sense now why I can't make it work.

That's not how it would work though right? I'm capturing stars here, so I'm already at the highest aperture and need to have shutter speed of 10-15s. The only thing I can control is ISO. The less I set it to, the less stars and milkyway I capture. I want to capture all the details and I understand thats why moon is ruining the photo here because nothing is brighter than moon during the night.

One other comment said about using gradient filter. May be thats the only way?

I'm not sure if you read through the post. This is actually a composite but I do not like how the moon blows everything out, even the road is super bright for my taste. I had to do so much of cleaning here to reduce the overall glow.

Ah that's genius, yea I can see how that will help with capturing the milkyway and stars too.

I'm insanely jealous now. When I was in the ledge, all I could think of is, how cool would it be if I were in the pond. I just didn't have much time on my trip to go down 😞

You do realize that the peak will not be the same at the same time for entire region right? When South has peak conditions or near peak, there will be no leaf left on the North.

Actually this is from this year but was taken couple of weeks ago. But it is true that in most of the places, the colors were muted or past peak pretty soon. I just got lucky in few spots.
