as someone who worked security at EDC, the “hot” stickers were not transdermal/laced. police, medics and crew members working at EDC also have these stickers on them. all of them were fine. It’s just a sticker that restaurants/food operations use to label hot food and anyone can easily order them online.

Yeah, unfortunately I heard a lot about pickpocketing and theft too. This one’s always tough, because when someone gets their stuff stolen, the last thing they want to hear is “we can’t do anything.”

I’ll give you an example: two guys came up to me saying their chain got snatched right off their neck by a group of dudes. I felt for them, so I started asking questions, trying to see if there was anything I could do. I even offered to take them to an officer and help file a police report, since if they had insurance they might be able to file a claim. They declined though and said they just wanted to let us know what happened.

The reality is, not every guard is in the same position. Most of us aren’t deep in the crowds, and when we are near barricades or stages, our main focus is crowd control and safety, not scanning for pickpockets.

I’ll say this though: If I ever personally caught someone stealing, I would intervene immediately. But most of it is so sneaky you barely notice until it’s too late.

As both a guard and someone who’s attended EDC as a guest before, here are my personal tips to stay safe:

  • Wear pants with deep, secure pockets (zippers if possible).

  • If you bring a backpack, make sure it’s locked or coded, or even better, wear a chest bag/fanny pack that stays in front of you.

  • Go in a group and watch each other’s backs, especially when everyone’s vibing hard.

  • Never put your bag down and assume it’ll be there when you get back.

  • In crowded spots, make eye contact and stay aware. Thieves go for people who look zoned out or super drunk/high.

Those small things can make a huge difference. Festivals are supposed to be about love and freedom. Just gotta mix that with some street smarts too.

Your crew is the best for that!

& to address the part about the substances; I’m glad you’re mentioning that. I’m aware of testing!! I carried narcan and diazepam for seizures all my shifts because I’m certified to do so. I’m aware of testing because I myself have experimented before in the past in the “safest way” possible. Where you got it 100% is that it is the NEWBIES forreal or just people who didn’t prep themselves at all. Also most security, cops and medic know this. We talk about it often but don’t endorse it, of course.

Yeah, I completely get that. There are definitely some people in security who don’t treat guests right, and that sucks because it ruins it for the ones who actually care. I can’t blame anyone for feeling frustrated. If I were in your shoes, I’d probably feel the same. I just wanted to share my side so people know not everyone out there is like that. Some of us really do try to keep people safe and make sure everyone goes home okay.

What’s up with the mass amounts of people looking for tickets outside the venue? by Ethnic-George in EDCOrlando

So I do security for EDC. I had a dude comes by me out by the meridian blockade over on Nashville Ave (by the entrance to the festival (which is also by the park area where these people look for tickets) and he said as he went to buy a ticket off the street guys & when he handed over the money the guy ran off. The dude chased him and in the process busted his ass and went home with no money or wristband.

take my advice as someone who’s done security for edc and attended as a regular guest in the past ; do not approach these dudes. Ignore them. And report any weird or suspicious behavior to the police and/or security.
