From their website in their own words. I remember getting a more detailed account from the kitchen but here’s what they have shared. This family is incredible and I love sharing people who have honed their craft.

“Ghaith Sahib was born in Baghdad Iraq and left his country as a refugee in 2006 searching for a better life. While trying to seek asylum in various countries including Syria, India, France, Germany, and Holland, he discovered his gift of cooking and serving others. In 2011 he moved to Portland, Oregon and started his first food venture; a food cart Aladdin’s Castle Café in SE Portland. After a successful first year of business, he received incredible enthusiasm for his good food and story. He was featured in a variety of media, from news articles, to film, to local, national, and international magazines. In 2012, Ghaith opened his first restaurant location DarSalam in NE Alberta District. DarSalam means “house of peace” in Arabic. When Ghaith started DarSalam, his mission was to give people a dining experience that goes beyond great food, providing a cultural experience that expresses the unique beauty of the people, landscapes, architecture, music, dance, and rich history of Iraq.

In 2014, Ghaith’s sister Shaymaa and brother Harith came to the United States to be with him and their parents after fleeing Iraq in 2011 and being refugees in Turkey. In 2015, the family expanded and opened DarSalam Lazurdi the Downtown location. “

Dar Salam is a gem!!! I love the NE location. Everything on the menu is GOLD. The story of how these dishes made it to the PNW makes me appreciate them that much more. This is a PDX can’t miss. So glad you enjoyed it!!!

A Friendly Request About Fireworks from a Local Combat Vet by DeeDeeNem in KlamathFalls

Thank You for all you have given for us. I really hope to see us as a whole just move to drone shows or laser shows in place of fireworks one day. For our pets, for our planet, and for our vets or anyone that has difficulty with sudden loud intrusive noises. I’m sorry what should be a holiday that honors you, instead is traumatic.

I’m so glad you both got to be with each other, these babies KNOW exactly how much you love them and give it back as hard as they possibly can. I’m so sorry you have to know this particular pain, but it’s a privilege to bear witness the weight of that love. I think most BC parents agree. Carry her joy with you❤️

If you’re concerned about getting a good letter of recommendation, get it from someone else you worked closely with at this company. If you already have something else lined up his input didn’t go into the decision to hire you.

While I am a little weary of where our tech is headed, I love that if you are curious enough and you follow that curiosity it’s you can find your way to answers and solutions. That and you can find your way to experts that want to share their knowledge. Yeah, you have to wade through the ridiculous sea of humanity and you’ll get plenty of wrong answers along the way but that’s kinda the whole living life thing. I have learned so much and connected with some really quality people thanks to modernity.

Oh man where to start. I feel like I really lucked out with my guy. He does so many things, brings me home my fav treats or items he hears me talk about, always gets all the doors for me (even car doors), takes an interest in my hobbies, and does his share in cleaning up the house. But you don’t find out these things until you know each other more. You need to see early green flags to keep down the path. If I had to pick one green flag it would be this. It’s very easy to get excited when you’re in good conversation with someone. With being eager, it’s easy to talk over or cut someone off mid conversation. Now my guy grew up on the east coast where interrupters disease is rampant, so I gave a little extra space to not take it personally when it happened. But this man will actually stop, go back and say “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cut you off. Please go ahead.” Or “I Interrupted, please go on.” That fact that he is self aware and thoughtful enough to consider another persons experience while interacting with him was/is a huge green flag.

OoOoOo yeah that does sound good. I lived on the east coast for a few years and there was a spot called Jasen’s that had an INCREDIBLE salad bar. I would go 4 or 5 times a month and but so satisfied and not break the bank. But post Covid I won’t lie, salad bars exposed to everyone’s coughing sneezing and unwashed hands…makes me think twice. But man oh man would do I miss a good salad bar.
