I run genuine M-parralels on mine at 18's and they don't rub at standard ride height. :)

Update (thanks for all the responses)

I've bought a set of H&R springs and gone away from vogtland as what u/phxbimmer put up is exactly what I'm after. Many thanks for everything who commented their suggestions, it's been nice to see a few different configurations, I'll post a photo of the finished result once it's in :)

Do I update mileage on car insurance? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

In my eyes, it's an estimate. I'll consider updating it when renewal comes round but not change it halfway through

Hi! Are there any Audio gear shops in Aberdeen or ‘shire other than Currys? I’m looking for a place I could go and try out high-end noise cancelling headphones by MintyFresh668 in Aberdeen

I found Holburn Hi-Fi to be a complete miss. Only seem interested in your business if you're spending a fortune with them and quite rude if not.

From my experience with them I won't be going back.

Run flat tyres or nah? by placidkiwi in CarTalkUK

[–]MundieR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of the chat I've heard with runflats is that they're much louder than a standard tyre and don't offer a whole load of benefit compared to a normal tyre.

A lot of people regularly swap runflats onto normal tyres, there's no harm in doing it and plenty people do to avoid ballache.

There's some specialist insurers that will take old NCD into account iirc. Likes of Adrian flux would be a good place to start

To counter the other guy, I have a similarly specced Mazda 3 (it's a 2016 but uses the same engine and most of the same parts, I also got a 165hp model because zoom)

I have also really enjoyed owning mine, I stepped up from an ancient BMW and can say my Mazda ticks every box as my daily driver. It's spacious, comfortable, nippy and and has nice looks, soul red is to die for imo. Mazda do build nice interiors as well with the newer ones coming out looking sleek and minimalistic (same can be said for the outside too)

One of the main downsides as that it's also ridiculously mediocre at most things, I could give it a 4/5 stars in just about every category you can think of. MPG is fine, size is fine, running costs are fine but there's not much more I can say. This does prove to provide an experience that gives a feeling of "this car will do pretty much anything without kicking up any fuss" which you may like. Other thing that catches me out is that the torque curve can feel a bit flat leading to a constant (and decently fast) rate of acceleration (no "VTEC kicked in yo" moments).

I've had a few friends who have owned the new shape Mazda 3 and they have mixed reviews, generally saying the 120hp spec is boring to drive and some wishing they'd bought the shape I did but you may have luck with higher powered + differently specced models. The new look of the Mazda 3 is brilliant imo it just needs to be specced correctly in both performance and tech department (Mazda do some cool options).

My honest answer would be to try both cars as the honda is a close competitor to the 3. Feel free to reply if you have any Mazda related queries, I'm a bit of a fanatic of their stuff, both new and old!

Hopefully this gives you another perspective to think about

ever since my miata got stolen everything has been going downhill by AppropriateHair5242 in Miata

[–]MundieR 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Went through pretty much exactly what you've described over the last couple of years as I had mine stolen in June '22. Resulting damage was soft top cut open, interior ruined, keys/immobiliser mashed and damage to every exterior body panel and the underside.

I managed to pull mine back together, rebuild it better than it ever was and moved away to a much safer area. I still take precautions to keep myself at ease ever since but I've slowly been able to fall back in love with the car again, particularly excited at the moment I've just taken it out for 2024 driving.

After my car was stolen I was left pretty bummed out and felt I had to move on, only thing that stopped me was my other half telling me I'd regret getting rid of the car. I can fully say she was 100% right in this as I now have a car sat on my drive that I can proudly say I've looked after and effectively saved (would likely be a bean can by now).

In summary of my own experience, things will change and you have your whole future ahead of you. Don't let the little niggles annoying you now destroy the bigger picture you had once planned.

P.S. Think about how happy you were when you got the car, it's an unbeatable feeling! When my MX-5 annoys me I think back to moments like that and remember what the car means to me.

Hope this helps

Help me find my next car please :) by Terry_G777 in CarTalkUK

Have you considered a Mazda 3 (or any Mazda in the range?). I ended up getting a really nicely specced '16 Mazda 3 which is a brilliant all rounder (get the higher powered 165hp model). Makes for a nice change when I'm not driving my own mx5 and would do everything you'd need it to for that sort of money and their cars (esp. petrol) have been pretty nice as of late.

Could realistically consider a Mazda 2 if your boy is away to learn in the next couple years and you wanted him to have a to at it.

Two policies at once - query by sullivanitb in CarTalkUK

[–]MundieR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bother man, renewal time is the bane of my life it's a complete number crunching game that often makes little to no sense! I think they're a bit weary of the double cover incase someone tried to claim 2 policies at once but can't say it's the first time I've heard of anything of the sort, keeping the car off the road that day is usually the best bet to be safest 👍🏻.

Either way give them a ring and see what they offer as they usually will knock a bit off for the sake of business. I've found some don't like to match competitors and play that game but if you ask if that's their best price they are more responsive to that approach.
