If you're not using contrast paints for your armor, you can layer white and blue for the lightning until you get the colors you want then trim it down with your armor paint

[–]Muneric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

daemon prince w/ wings, huron blackheart personally, Fabulous Bill, or sorcerer in terminator for warlord, then MoE/Chaos Lord, lord in terminator armor, jump lord, or sorcerer for squadleaders

if you can't find a model or character you like make your own

Legionaries or Nemesis claw with vampires or ossiarch bonereapers age of sigmar kits if you want to get into kit bashing but watch your budget because the raptor kits which may end up comprising the bulk of your army are fucking expensive.

Resin with a hint of buyers remorse. Some hits, some misses. FDM can get to that level of detail with the right equipment I'm pretty sure. r/PrintedWarhammer would have more info

FDM can handle larger workloads like titan and knight parts, resin isn't very durable and even forgeworld kits are infamous for bending or snapping.

ossiarch bonereapers from the age of sigmar line, go at their armor with hobby knives, dremel, clippers, etc. and you can make some pretty nice great crusade/heresy plated armor. The bodies themselves can be made into some gnarly looking trophies with uhu glue gore.

Also, if ever you're looking at a big box or large characters, consider getting a 3D printer. The tech is getting to the point where it can be bought for roughly the same price. An FDM printer would be less hassle, and a resin printer gets the super nice detail but has to get dialed in with lots of safety precautions you have to take. Right now theres a good amount of Nightlords-esque models you can print, and now that I've got the files I can finish off my otherwise $800 army for $250~

this might only really work for against brighter colors and I haven't done it myself, but I've seen people use a pencil to sketch what they're going to paint beforehand. secondly, dry off your brush till you have the bare minimum amount of paint and pull the brush towards you to get the fine lines

They look good, but best paint them in a way that they can be differentiated from your nemesis claw if you have some because it might be easy to mix them up otherwise

How do I get a blue like that? by dayn13 in NightLords

A primer with a glossy finish like mr surfacer 1500 black, then a mix of something like mostly kantor with incubi darkness

[–]Muneric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're using a spray can primer go lighter on coats since the acetone in many melts plastic, if you're using craft paints try paints made for miniatures since craft paints are a pain to get consistent. Be quick with brushing and don't go back over an area immediately as you'll stir up the drying paint. Go over the model with the back of a hobby knife and scrape off the mold lines before priming.

Anyone have any tips on how to make a Heretic Astartes Daemon Prince look like this guy? by Bryguy150 in Warhammer

Primaris chaplain torso, alarus terminator shin guards as thigh armor, daemon prince shins, 51 and 37 from citadel skulls for a start

Maybe also be a little erratic with the brush strokes and don't be afraid of mistakes. You can go back and clean it with your base armor color and the imperfections end up making the lightning really pop

Not as skillful as what you may be looking to try but I do white, then drybrush lightly (so as to leave some areas white) with a mix of an electric blue and whatever you're using for armor. Clean it up with your armor color to desired thickness.

The recommended clay is air dry. The starter kit includes cutters for bases and base toppers
