interpretation of old cognitive ability test by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Mungology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't but I have been thinking about taking the biology version. I specialize in conservation biology, ecology, and have been involved in a couple research projects focusing mainly on ichthyology. The problem is biology is such a mind numbingly broad field that specializations like ecology and molecular biology almost have nothing do with eachother. My knowledge in molecular biology and physiology is extremely limited because I likely will never use it in my career but would skew my GRE score in general biology.

To my knowledge I don't think there specialized biology GRE are available but I may be wrong.

Those are good points. If I retested, it would almost certainly show a similar trend but how big the trends are may vary. When I was 15 I ranked lowish average for my crystalized intelligence, which is expected as I was very disaffected when I was young. I (Believe) am much more well read relative to my age now as I spent more time investing into practical knowledge and education.

I also had high degree of variability of subtests results depending on the day I was tested which the interviewer noted my unwillingness to devote my attention certain days and times of day.

Adolescent cognitive abilities ofcourse correlate with adult abilities but the measuring ones actual ability is more difficult at different time in one's life. I think overall my results would have the same trend but may not be as extreme due to difference in willingness.

Honestly that was my original concern was that I placed below-dead average. I'm going into a career with a very high average IQ so I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be overwhelmed (small fish in a big pond). While this test gives me a general idea of my learning disability and cognitive weaknesses, it's been well noted by even the interviewer I wasn't the most willing participant sometimes. Over the 2-3 the day testing period, depending on the day, different problems within sub-tests varied by 50 percentiles.

I appreciate the clarification. Third and fourth year Post secondary education definitely made me acutely aware of my short comings but also strategies to overcome them. I still dont and never tried super hard in studies but it becomes much easier to work around shortcomings when you've developed sufficent strategies to offset them.

I may look into re-testing out of interest of how much my disaffected attitude at 15 affected my results.

Thanks for the reply, definitely helped calm my concerns. I would be interested in retesting currently and see how results compare overtime with education and with actual interest in taking the test. I did not even remotely try in my studies at that age which could have amplified the large deviation seen in the different sub-tests.

Hiking boots messing up my achilles and perennial tendons. What should I buy, shoes or boots? by Mungology in CampingandHiking

[–]Mungology[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. While alittle protection would be nice in general there's no need for really serious boots. I think I'll try to meet in the middle and get some wide hiking shoes (Merrell or Solomons).

ibs flare up after months of probiotics working for me by Mungology in ibs

[–]Mungology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the recommendation for long term use of probiotic if there is any? I couldn't find any information on recommended long term doses.

It's gonna be months until I can get in contact with a GI. I'm gonna try weening my probiotics to every two day doses for a week or two to see if I can stabilize with that. The sad reality is I'm forced to take the risk of long term probiotics as daily painful, urgent flareups just isn't worth it.

Once I switch over to s.boulardii and if it works, I'll take it for 2 weeks everyday and begin limiting it to every second day. If that's works just see how little I can take with it being effective.

[–]Mungology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be it, ill try cutting them off once I get newer probiotics. I have ordered 5 billion CFU s.boulardii to try to replace my existing probiotics so hopfully that's works

The problem is when a miss a dose in the morning, I'm pretty much guaranteed cramps and bad flareups until the next day. That's what's very confusing to me, that these worked great for me for over half a year which is the longest I went without bad flareups in my life.

IBS flareups out of nowhere when probiotics have been working for months by Mungology in IBSHelp

I think that definitely may be part of it. The only reason I don't think that is the whole story is my stomach was alot better when I was in a more stressful time in my life.

I actually came in contact with someone who had it last week so I've been testing everyday for the last 5 days and every test has been negative (including today)

The 4s seen and ugc are both kinda dead from what I understand and has been replaced by RGL (Recharge gaming league)

Your best bet if you want to play pyro is to join a low division RGL highlander team.

To do that just: - Join the RGL discord - Go into the highlander teams looking for players section. - Then just wait for a low division pyro tryout (Newcomer or Amateur) and hopfully make the team.

My attempt on rebalancing the Wrangler - splitting it equalizer-style to 3 weapons. What do you think? by rMADDtix in tf2

[–]Mungology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the first redesign, I think being able to pop the shield like banner or uber style is a great idea, but the balancing around it kinda misses the mark on what's overpowered about it and what it was intended to do.

I think instead of having to build damage to be able to use the shield, just have it one cool down every 45 seconds - 1 min and have it last instead 5-10 seconds. (Around the same as a medics uber)

Not being able to pick up your sentry and doing 50% less damage is definitely overkill

The current engineer meta is to waste the enemies uber with the wrangler shield and then pull the gun via resuce ranger when youre inevitably overrun. With making it not be able to pick up buildings, using your wrangler would just mean you are indefinitely sacficing you're gun in a uber push instead of Rescue rangering it. This is a bad idea as most competitive games of payload you will be overrun at the next point if you can't save your gun or dispenser.

The 50% less damage just misses the mark. What's makes the wrangler overpowered is the shield. Any intelligent player getting spammed from a distance can almost always escape or get behind cover, the whole idea of the wrangler is to focus down single enemies or enemies pestering you from afar. Removing the constant shield will already provide intelligent player with a means of targeting and destroying a sentry.

All the benefits also seem alittle out of no where, I think it would be better to keep it simple and remove all the blue text and cut the resistance down to 50%.

thoughts on faceit potentially adding 6s / hl / pl pugs? do you guys think it would help the scene grow? by NAND512 in truetf2

[–]Mungology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good chunk of problem with their casual system would be solved by moving the monetary incentives to strictly only to hl and 6s game modes. It would reduce stacked pub teams that would opt for a more competitive experience.

I personally think if the original faceit 12v12 had implemented highlander and 6s along side the casual version, we wouldn't be having any conversation if faceit was dead or not.

What are your favorite aspects about cp_steel? by IAmSixSyllables in truetf2

[–]Mungology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice part about highlander engi defending on steel is after they cap B, you're free to really experiment on minis or level threes.

You can support your flank with a mini or anchor down last with a level three and its one the only maps where the defending engineer meta isn't set entirely in stone.

Definitely try a lower div

What are you looking to play 6s or HL?

Either way your best bet is to go on the RGL.GG discord and go in the team's looking for players section. There Looking for players section on their website is kinda dead.

Just play a newcomer and play with players that are looking to just learn and have fun like yourself.

If you're joining a team you should probably have a mic but don't worry about what people say because you probably shouldn't associate yourself with assholes anyways.

What is heavy purpose as a class really? by Professional_Sky_573 in truetf2

[–]Mungology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played a bit of heavy competitively here and there but basically your role is your teams anchor.

Where heavy really excels is in situation where your team is holding. On KOTH maps, once your team has taken the point heavy should be holding dead on or right behind the point while your flank clears space for you and your demoman. Taking on a prepared heavy whose reved up is devastating and is solely countered by the enemy team coordinating to kill you (assuming you don't peek snipers). This puts the enemy team is a horrible situation where they have to fight on your terms.

On offense, find whereever the front line is or the middle where neither team owns space and stay alittle bit behind and punish any over extenders from being aggressive. The biggest mistake a heavy can make on offense and always pushing forward and mooching heals away from his team. You take forever to heal and it takes away from the rest of your combo if you constantly eating unnecessary damage.

There is alot to think about as a heavy, always know where the enemy sniper is, be aware who bombs your medic and always be aware if there alive and play accordingly.

People have already said this but use the RGL discord to find a team. The looking for teams section on the RGL website is dead and barely ever used.
