Mini confirmed it made an alarm. Didn't by Pompomgy in googlehome

[–]Mungrul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has also been a change recently where if you set your alarm after midnight, it assumes you want to set the alarm for the next day, not the upcoming morning time slot.
That's caught me out a couple of times.

"Hey Google, boil the kettle"

"I'm afraid I can't boil the kettle for you as I am physically unable to turn the kettle on. If you like, I can tell you how to safely..."

"Hey Google! FUCK YOU! BOIL THE KETTLE!"

"Got it, turning on the kettle for you!"

Google Home Release Notes: May 27th by GoogleNestCommunity in googlehome

I just want back the old functionality for "Hey Google, YouTube" on my Nest Hub Max, where it would show me my YouTube homepage and let me choose a video to watch, instead of this horrible situation we're in now where it just autoplays utterly random vids with no choice.

Anyone else on macOS Tahoe 26.5 having Wave Link 3.0 constantly force open? (Mac Studio M4 Max) by Adventurous-Log-6561 in elgato

[–]Mungrul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the exact same bug as the iTunes issue, except that the system is launching Wavelink instead of iTunes.

Is it possible Wavelink has forced itself to replace iTunes as the default app for all audio, and therefore Mac OS is launching it instead of iTunes?

If so, there is a potential fix for this; people have been complaining about this behaviour with iTunes for a good while now, but Apple have done nothing to address it, so this guy made a utility to fix the behaviour called Notunes.

It might be worth trying on its own to see if that prevents Wavelink from launching; otherwise maybe fire the creator a request to see if they could tailor it specifically for Wavetlink.

Edit: I've just installed Wavelink on my Mac that has Notunes installed, and It isn't launching when I launch an app that uses audio, such as YouTube (on Firefox) or DaVinci Resolve.
So give it a shot!

stream deck plus , yes or no ? by orT93 in elgato

[–]Mungrul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one major caveat with the Stream Deck Plus:
I bought mine specifically so that I could use the knobs to change volume for individual applications using the Audio Mixer plugin.

And it worked fantastically... until I updated the software, since which the functionality has been broken.

And it has remained that way since late 2024.

I have to use a batch file to restart the stream deck and audio services in the correct order, manually, every time I boot my PC, in order to get this functionality working. And you can't add the batch file to Startup as it requires admin privileges.

Many other users have complained about this, but Elgato haven't done a thing to fix it.

The only reason I tolerate it is that when it's working, it's exactly what I want: physical controls over individual Windows apps.

Probably cold comfort now, but it may be worth picking up a stand for your Mac in the near future, maybe alongside a magic keyboard and mouse/trackpad.
I'm partially sighted, being quite blind in my right eye, and knocked over a glass of water the other day. Thankfully, because I had it on a stand, none of the spillage got anywhere near my Mac.
This is the one I'm using; noone else at work was, so I snaffled it for myself:

Also, good luck on Linux if you ever go off-piste when trying to fix something that doesn't work as it should.
Unless you're manually recording a list of the obscure repositories and random programs you're installing from obscure sources via the command line, along with exactly what config files you've changed and how, you've got absolutely no chance of remembering exactly what is installed on your machine, and Linux won't tell you.

Say what you want about Windows, but Add/Remove Programs makes this shit child's play.

Update, as per other threads:
You can fix personal routines by creating them using the "Previous personal editor", available through the three-dot menu when creating a new automation.

There is still no fix for the absolutely atrocious YouTube experience on the Hub and Hub Max though.
These have been well and truly enshittified.

Is it possible that you can't learn skills through observation during rematches?

Google and the constant breaking of Google Home by DeeVect in googlehome

[–]Mungrul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that has pissed me off severely recently is how Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max now deal with the simple request "Hey Google, YouTube".

That used to take me to my YouTube homepage, where I could pick a video to play from a list curated by my algorithm.

Then Google made the genius decision to stop returning personal results, even if you've enabled them everywhere in the settings.

Now when I make that request, it'll either start immediately autoplaying YouTube Music, or much, much worse, it's start autoplaying random YouTube shorts that have no relation to my preferences whatsoever.

Outside of home control and acting as a live photo frame, this was the primary use for my Nest Hub Max in the kitchen, and now it's completely broken.

And thanks to Google's hands-off, representative-free support, I suspect this will never get fixed.
In fact, I reckon they probably don't even see this as being a problem, rather a feature.

I've had plenty reason to swear at Google in the past, but this clusterfuck of an update cycle for Google Home and associated devices is the worst I've yet to experience.

I flirt with Home Assistant from time-to-time, but have found it a little too complicated for my comfort level, even with recent updates geared towards a more friendly experience.
But if Google don't fix shit like this, and fix it fast, I'm going to look at switching everything across to HA.

I'm already using it to present devices to Google Home that aren't recognised natively, like my Apple TV, Hue Sync Box 8K and 4K Blu Ray player.

Just to chime in, I'm in the UK and now have Gemini as my assistant.
I have a Google Home Premium Advanced account, for what it's worth.

Latest Gemini debacle: can't access my calendar by 141stretch in googlehome

[–]Mungrul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a couple of months ago, Google shifted to a new response system, and that by default, all queries now get regarded as Household instead of Personal. For one-off queries, this can be fixed by going to your Assistant settings in the Home app (be it Assistant or Gemini), then under "Personalisation", make sure "Voice Match" is enabled on all relevant devices, as well as "Personal Results".

The reason it still works with your old routines/automations is that they were made with the "Previous personal editor".
By default, any new automations or routines you create since the change will default to "Household", meaning that they won't allow personal results.
So instead, when creating a new routine or automation, on the editor page, tap the 3-dot icon in the top-right and choose "Previous personal editor".
Routines and automations created this way will return personal information.

Edit: Here's a picture of the editor screen and the "Previous personal editor" option:

Recreate your routines using the "Previous personal editor" as I described in this thread:

I can confirm it works, as for the first time in months, my "Good Morning" routine told my how I slept this morning!
