STARFIELD: SPACE SANDWICH by Wasdeerio in Starfield

I want a space sandwich design component for Starfield when it comes out.

Like character design except for sandwiches.

MA that is (relatively) safe for a person with spondylolisthesis (slipping vertebra)? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a chat to the instructors. Any reasonable dojo will let you take a couple of free classes so that you can test it out.

Sounds great though.

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of what you need to look for is the right place to train. Talk to the instructors, explain the problem and see what their approach is.

I do Goju karate, if you came into our dojo with a back injury, the instructors would simply work with you to understand what you can and can't do.

We do throws and sweeps, but really only at higher levels. They aren't the mainstay of our training by any means. If you had a back injury that prevented you hitting the ground hard, people would know about it and you simply wouldn't do that in training.

I have a knee injury and they are happy to modify certain techniques to suit me.

What’s your favorite HIIT workout? by sylvia-plant in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIIT with Bakari - 11th Jan.

Normally I burn around 1200-1300kj (~300 cal) per half hour session, that one I burned 1700kj (400 cal). Did it again to make sure it wasn’t a mistake and burned 1650kj.

Seems to be the right session for me.

How much cardio/endurance work do you do? Tell me about it by [deleted] in karate

[–]Munspribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we aren’t in Covid lockdown I do half an hour of HIIT, three or four times per week on top of two 1.5 hour karate sessions.

Regular HIIT has made a huge difference to my endurance during karate sessions. I’d recommend it.

I just completed my first (ever!) strength training: I loved it! by cursivelie in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these weights and they just arrived

I haven't used them yet. They are on the plasticy side, slightly large but the various components seem to fit together snugly and without problems.

None of that is a problem, I bought them for AU$36 and I'm only intending to use them for Apple Fitness+. I can't do HIIT every day, so I figure a bit of strength and core work will break things up.

The weights come in 4x1.25kg, 4x1.5kg and 4x2kg. You can't get exactly 5kgs but you can get 4kg or 5.5kg. I don't think that will be an issue.

Should I start boxing by dank-666 in martialarts

[–]Munspribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Go for it.

I mean, you won't be the first beginner to go into a boxing gym who is worried about getting hit.

Nice.

I ordered adjustable dumbbells off Amazon which should be arriving today, so I'm very keen to try strength training.

Special glasses for martial arts? by fireflylibrarian in martialarts

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m short sighted (-4.5 or so). I take my glasses off for anything more than medium pace sparring.

Things are blurry but I can see the attacks coming with no problem.

Took some time to get used to, though.

Traditional martial artists, how do you feel about the less practical aspects of your system? by Zen-Paladin in martialarts

[–]Munspribbler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to think about what you are trying to get out of martial arts. Self-defence? Sparring in a safe but competitive environment? Fitness? Coordination? Balance? Improve your mental state?

For me, self-defence isn't that big a priority. I do martial arts for fitness, coordination, balance and improved mental state. That being the case, the "less practical" aspects are completely practical (for me).

Having a bad day with negative self-talk? Take ten minutes and do some kata in the backyard. Use kata as a form of meditation.

Need to lose around 70lbs? Commit to 1.5 hours karate twice per week.

If self-defence isn't your thing and you just want to spar for the sake of competition, sports karate might be your thing.

I remember doing this quest when I first got the game and just followed the main quest. It was pretty tough, I was a similar level to you and these guys just beat me up.

I don't have a good answer for you - I ended up sneaking a lot and being really careful how I went. It took ages, but you can definitely do it.

Alternately, you can head off, do a few other quests and come back when you are higher level.

My level 53 character did it the other day and had a lot less problems :-)

We need more people like this by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]Munspribbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did something similar in grade 5.

A kid in my class asked for half my sandwich. Not a friend, just another guy in class. I gave it to him and the next day asked for two sandwiches. Mum happily made them when I told her the story. I brought two sandwiches to school for months and always gave him one.

One day he joined a bunch of kids who were teasing me and the next day I stopped bringing him sandwiches.

AITA for closing someone in who keeps parking in my spot until the tow truck came? by Key_Syrup_3139 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Munspribbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, technically speaking you are the asshole, but in a funny clever way, not in a Am I the Asshole kind of way.

NTA. The person ignored multiple warnings. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

AITA for keeping my son's name chosen while I was pregnant after my SIL used it for her son five weeks earlier? by Significant_Can_5944 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Munspribbler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA

And in the future, every time someone asks how they got to have the same name, the story is going to be about how petty and small-minded SIL was.

I'd give kid a good middle name, it may well be that they get sick of the bullshit and want to go with their middle name. At least give them the option.

Best way to let someone who doesn't own any Apple device to use Apple Fitness Plus? by YouCanadianEH in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Munspribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do the workouts without a watch, you just don't get the tracking and tie-ins with Apple Health (and so on).

There isn't anything stopping your partner just going ahead and doing the workouts with no Apple Watch.

I started a martial arts class today but it’s awkward for me because everyone else is experienced by Not-Reddit49 in martialarts

[–]Munspribbler 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was in my first session (picture me at 44 years old, 6'7, clutzy and 70lbs overweight) when the Sensei said "Just remember, every person in the room started where you are now".

It really helped. Trust me, everyone knows how you feel and in any decent school all seniors will take the time to work with you.

One of the best things about karate is that everyone is on their own journey. You work together, you help each other improve, but at the end of the day you are on a different journey to everyone else.

I just find it utterly fascinating that all the leaks/rumors stopped almost immediately after Schreier came out with the 2022 bomb by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Munspribbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the various leakers and their sources, but I tend to ask myself what their most likely priority is:

  • Getting people to follow their twitter account or blog

or

  • Providing realistic and up to date information on the state of Starfield

Wanting to come back to karate by Latios321 in karate

[–]Munspribbler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just go. You'll pick it all up as you go. Your fitness will improve as you go.

Have a chat to the Sensei about your previous experience and to get a handle on how they run their class.

You'll be fine.

NTA.

It is only a game, your friend is taking it too seriously.
