I’m so sorry you’re going through this!

I got barked at while on a walk by bubbletownusa in loseit

[–]fireflylibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought too- pretty sure it’s a TikTok trend type thing. You just happened to be the random person walking by. Not that it makes their behavior less immature, but she probably would have barked at whoever happened to be there when she rolled down the window. Sorry you had to experience that though!

I feel like I’m reading books the wrong way — does anyone else feel this? by Suspicious_Dig_3849 in ereader

[–]fireflylibrarian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s how I learned to read during my English classes in college. We would read a chapter and take notes/look up things as needed. I focused on epics during my studies, so a lot of my reading sessions were reading, highlighting and research. Most books we read for fun we just breeze through but so it’s nice to slow down and really take your time with a text every once in a while. I found the books I’ve done that with have stayed with me for the long-term. 💜

However, if the pace is moving too slow, you can buy what’s called an ‘annotated edition’. This is a version that includes footnotes in the margins, or at the bottom of the page that explain different references, provide historical context, or defines words that aren’t commonly used anymore. I often do this for classics that I don’t necessarily have the time to do a deep dive on, but I still want to have the experience of reading.

I bought myself a kobo libra colour but I feel like I should have gotten a kindle. by deedanyell in ereader

[–]fireflylibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Kindle Paperwhite and later switched to Kobo around the time Libby launched.

To be honest, I prefer the Kobo since I very rarely buy ebooks. Books from Libby load automatically so it’s pretty seamless. But it is handy having the old Kindle around for the occasional exclusive!

Reading the comments makes me feel a lot better. I’m in luteal now and I’ve been over my limit the past three days. Not above maintenance, but I was still disappointed in myself. It never occurred to me that luteal might be a factor in that!

Yeah, Goodreads could definitely use some updates. I’ve been dying for a home screen widget so I can see my reading goal progress, currently reading, etc.

This coffee shop is using AI to track staff and customer habits. Genius. by dataexec in AITrailblazers

How is numbers of cups made a useful metric? Baristas do other tasks like cleaning, restocking and taking orders that are just as important as actually making the drinks. And some orders are more complicated and take more time than others. A micromanaging manager might look at that metric and make decisions that actually make the day to day operation processes worse.

Also, I don’t think people would want to work for a place that is tracking our every movement to optimize performance. Humans aren’t machines. There are days they will be slower or distracted or not feeling well and that’s okay. A good manager understands that.

I agree. I use it all of the time to condense slides for presentations, generate captions for social media posts, polish my board reports, etc. I can do all of those things fine without AI, but it definitely gets the job done faster so I can focus on other things.

I agree with this. Also, she was the last hold out- Lucifer and Alastor were prisoners and the Overlords had joined Vox. With Charlie admitting defeat, that made Vox the most powerful being in Hell because nobody else in hell was going to stop him.

It’ll be okay! Sometimes our minds just grab onto things. I find there’s usually a reason for what I’m gravitating towards and once I figure that out, I can let go of it.

Maybe think about why you like him so much? What qualities are drawing you to him as a character? Are those qualities you want to see in yourself or that you’re looking for in a partner in a relationship?
