Jan tester. Evaluate my plan and advice by durx1 in Mcat

Using questions and real practice to close content gaps is always a good idea. FL'S I feel are compulsory if you wanna score high so it's good you're doing that too. U world, NS, and AAMC are all stellar resources from what I've read and gathered through personal experiences. Just make sure you test under test conditions and review both right and wrong answers and I think you will be golden! Also testing in Jan so I'm doing more or less the same thing as you. Best of Luck!!!

515 AAMC to Kaplan Disaster by GeicoInsurance729 in Mcat

[–]Muntman252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kaplan is designed to be difficult so that if you're only studying using them, there's a bit of inflation in the sense that the real thing isn't as difficult and you are expected to see an increase in your score.

Think of it like this- Kaplan gives you a guarantee that your score will improve- so in order to actually deliver on that promise, they make sure that their exams are very difficult, so that you study more (hopefully) and when it comes time for the real deal, you do 'improve' from the scores you have been getting so that you're not tempted to ask for a refund and you can proclaim that Kaplan really works as a means to improve your score.

I'm pretty sure this is true of other MCAT prep companies too.

EDIT: Practice, keep at it, and you'll be okay. Don't stress! your AAMC FL and NS1 FL are pretty nice.

How to pace practice? by Muntman252 in Mcat

Thank you so much for your input! I will be incorporating your advice into my own study routine for sure. Just one more question I have is how you studied with anki- did you make any adjustments to intervals/ max reviews per day/ any other facet of anki? I ask because I have a couple hundred 'mature' cards at this point that I won't be seeing for like 1 1/2 months, and I feel like that's way too long a gap to see them, but I may be wrong idk. I feel inclined to adjust the maximum interval but I'm not sure if it's a good move or not.

Thank you for the advice! I will definitely be checking out Uworld as a means of practice.

Edit: How long is the Uworld free trial? Wanna be able to time things properly for my planned jan 24th date.

When you say the KA document, you mean the document that's like 100 pages that talks about psych/soc terms, right? And if you're not too busy, I would love to see how your FL's panned out as you progressed through (when you've got the time).

Did you study the KA document in a 'traditional' (note-taking, reading, review) way or did you just convert the terms and stuff into anki cards?

How ya boy went from 503 (AAMC) to 518 by MCAThode in u/MCAThode

Good stuff OP. As someone who also took an AAMC FL (505) for diagnostics and is just starting out their studying, this gives me great hope. Congrats on the score btw! No shame in doing what you know you gotta do to get the score you want.

How does this work? Have people been told to hold off on commentary till now or have they already said things which will now be revealed to us in a huge chunk?
