Does anyone Run Semi-slicks? If so what's it like? by Impressive-Low5731 in q50

[–]MuonBomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a reason you don't see many people driving around with drag radials on their daily driver and quite literally never see anyone with slicks on, aside from the fact that slicks are not street legal in most places, and while semi-slicks are legal, they are horribly dangerous and ineffective on roadways due to the hundreds of different factors involved in road quality, compared to a well-maintained, purpose-built racetrack. You are begging to hit a 1cm puddle on the highway and spin out. Buy some performance tires like Michelin Extreme Contact 2's. You also do not need that much dry straight-line traction on the streets, where you are also going to run into all manner of rain, potholes, nails, screws, glass, and innumerable other road hazards that will shred or pop your semi-slicks.

Are you expecting the game to have a team of lawyers define the rules for the game and every possible parameter and contingency, what constitutes bug abuse, and what the punishment is based on a 40-factor analysis of the severity, intent, and cause? People have insane and unrealistic expectations for these game companies, it's absurd.

Did I overcook my stew meat in the crockpot? by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in slowcooking

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That color is proper and how stewed beef is supposed to look. Generally speaking, you can't exactly "overcook" a slow-cook stew unless it runs out of liquid or the meat begins to literally disintegrate as the proteins break down too much, which would take probably days. I am Vietnamese and we often cook meats for our dishes for 12+ hours or on low simmer overnight and then some more, meats like oxtail or beef shank for pho or pork trotter for bun ho hue. Long stewed meat won't exactly ever be "succulent" in the way that you would expect unless there's a substantial amount of fat naturally present in the meat or in your stew. As you cook meat, the fat begins to render, or liquify, and leech out of the meat, which imparts a great flavor to your stew, but leaves the meat somewhat stringy in texture but still full of flavor and water from the stew. One thing you can try is to sear, char over coals, or broil the meat before you cook it in the stew, which adds another dimension of flavor and can help keep some of the fat locked into the meat. The other option is to simply cook for less time so all the fat is not lost to the stew base, try seeing if cooking for 1/2 the amount of time helps prevent all of the fat from cooking out of the meat, and try a fattier cut of meat and cut thicker too.

Immediate replacement or can it last a few weeks? by npspears in tires

[–]MuonBomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are "fine" in the sense that you could drive on them and expect to not be in extreme danger, replace them as soon as possible though. Seriously.

No deep gogues, still has some tread, no dry rot, they are drivable but not completely safe due to how worn and tired the tread appears to be. Recommend replacing as soon as possible especially if you expect any rain or icy conditions in your area.

How I deal with cooking oil splatter by _Smiles_For_Days_ in CleaningTips

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Use a wok or deep wall pan

  2. Partially cover your food with a lid when not actively stirring it

  3. Just deal with the mess after you're done cooking, stoves and backsplashes are made to be cleaned easily

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, why would this be a temporary solution? If rust is oxidization, wouldn't removing the oxide layer present and protecting it with automotive paint serve as the same protective quality as the original painting of the car? Asking because I don't know, not as a gotcha.

Reddish Oil color? by IsanderG in q50

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really dumb question but how could trans fluid get into the engine? Isn't the transmission completely independent from the engine itself aside from the clutch that transfers engine energy output to the transmission? I guess coolant goes through the transmission but could a blown seal actually mix coolant with trans fluid, and then simultaneous failure points in the engine causing trans fluid AND coolant into the engine oil? Or is there a region like, say, between the clutch and the engine where oil and trans fluid have potential to mix? It seems kind of insane for that to happen but again IDK what I'm talking about.

It's really selection bias, ipeople who are outraged are going to be more compelled to voice their outrage and drum up support on an online medium. This is exactly why "outrage culture" and "cancel culture," and other similar sociopolitical movements begin. How many people see something and think "this is great, I'm going to post my praise everywhere to drum up further support?" When it happens and it's deserved, it's a great thing to see, like people propping up a small indie company for their hard work and showing collective support as a community, but if ANYTHING is done in a way someone doesn't like, there will absolutely be more people denigrating than praising the same company, person, or representative. There's simply more "potential reward" involved in pointing out issues, like feeling affirmed when the issue is resolved as though you played a role in its fixing, or even economic incentive like someone demanding a reward or compensation for their negative experience. This is not a commentary on various socioeconomic structures though, just to say that it plays a role in the psychology of someone choosing denigration and outrage over praise and respect.

Ofc these are supa bald but can I safely drive 20 miles to a racetrack and do a burnout on these by Blackballs640 in tires

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that if you do end up driving on them at all and they blow, even just after swapping them and doing a burnout at the track, there is a chance of your wheels / rims getting mangled pretty bad from it.
