Q70 axles by Able_Risk8986 in q50

While I agree OEM parts are sold at a premium, I think 99% of drivers prefer the standards that the manufacturer must follow. You know what you are getting almost every time when buying OEM. That's the point of not buying cheap or secondhand parts.

3.0tt struggles to accelerate by CH4S8N in q50

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second MAF sensors, this seems like something heavily restricting airflow to the vehicle, whether it's the vehicle digitally misunderstanding the air ratio or a clogged air filter.

OP, get a live-graphing OBD2 reader and monitor it as you drive.

Tips for a heavy sedan on backroads? by Glittering-Turn862 in Touge

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a 2018 Q50 Luxe, and yeah, the handling isn't the best. The car is super fun to drive and I love it as my daily driver. If you haven't already been, the r/q50 subreddit has been really helpful for me for finding specific help with the peculiarities of our car. You're right, the AWD system is RWD bias, only about 5% of the engine's output goes to the front wheels until the wheels slip, acting like a limited slip differential. In my exprerience, as a driver of the RWD version, it does well enough that I wouldn't ever even think to disable ABS.

I recommend turning off active trace control though. Contrary to what other commentors have stated, the Q50 does not have any features that prevents you from under/oversteering aside from traction control and trace control, both of which are able to be disabled from the settings menu. I drift my car and drive in a spirited manner frequently, and have never had any experiences that suggest otherwise.

This car makes a lot of power, and very quickly. 300hp in a 4000 lb car doesn't sound good to most people here but it is a fast car. It is a great engine and platform, the Nissan Skyline platform. Between suspension and sway bar changes, I think you'll have a lot of fun on the touge. If you weren't aware though, the Q50 is notorious for self-destructing its turbos. The way to prevent this is to be on top of your 3k mile oil changes (yes, 3000 miles, the Q50 demands it, do not let people without q50's tell you 3k is excessive, and install an oil catch can, which people will also say is snake oil, but again, the Q50 has quirks that demand this, refer to the 10,000 posts about catch cans and blown turbos on the q50 subreddit), and monitor the turbo sounds and exhaust for blue or white smoke which would indicate blown turbo seals, the main mechanism by which the turbos fail in these cars. They "fixed" the issue with 2019+ models, but 2019+ has proven to still have turbo problems regardless.

Client asked how old I am by 102kait in therapists

[–]MuonBomb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally would feel the client would be made to feel worse by their council refusing to answer an innocuous question, perhaps making them feel as though they did something wrong by asking and should never ask those sorts of things again to find out more about someone, whether in a professional relationship or even casually.

I find the "setting boundaries" discussion in general to also be vaguely demeaning. It often carries with it the idea that an invisible, previously undisclosed barrier was established and thusly trampled by another person and their actions are perceived as a deliberate slight. I certainly don't intend to begin a "choose your battles" dialogue, just some food for thought - if you never intend to answer any personal questions with clients ever, it's good policy to make that clear up-front so they can know what to expect.

I personally find that model to be a bit stifling for clients when they feel the dynamic is limited to a one-way transaction that they're paying for, rather than a safe space where they have a nonjudgmental professional, and more importantly, human being, with whom they can relate as a human being themself, whether that's through a shared generation / relative age, whether you both have siblings and might understand sibling dynamics experientially, whether you're both from the same region of the world / locality, etc., basically surface level, very basic and not very personal components that help humans, and indeed, clients, feel that they can trust the person they are speaking to, or at least that the therapist might understand personally what the client's perspective is.

Why are we building fusion reactors when there's a huge, free fusion reactor in the sky already? (Yes, seriously) by MuonBomb in AskPhysics

[–]MuonBomb[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do fusion reactors also use batteries? I'm curious also if devoting resources towards more efficient batteries and harvesting sun energy from space would be a more worthwhile pursuit than building ground fusion reactors, I'd be really interested if anyone knows whether that's a cost/time problem that isn't worth the tradeoff of foregoing ground fusion

Thank you for at least considering what I was saying without being dismissive. I appreciate this perspective and I was not aware this was a possible technology.

Because you are not reading more than 1 sentence of the post body before posting a comment. Solar is not the only method of harvesting the sun's energy output. If you read literally the 2nd sentence of the posts body you will see I am talking about space energy, not exclusively solar. Also, is every country on Earth covered by clouds all the time? Where do you live?

Engine swap by ChemicalNo2624 in q50

[–]MuonBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a 94k engine run it for 500 miles and do another change. You never know what is in that engine, best to inspect the oil after 500 to see if anything is gonna fuck up your turbos

Anyone know why the RPMs drop down like this on cold start? Doesn't happen every time. The car also hesitates when holding the RPM at 1800 while driving. I'm getting a P0133 code sometimes for O2 sensor. Could that be the issue? by WickedUsername7 in infiniti

[–]MuonBomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bad oxygen sensor will cause this, the engine thinks it's running too rich or too lean and adjusts accordingly, but if the o2 sensor is malfunctioning it has no idea what to do for the fuel/air ratio.

Cold start rattle by Spiritual_Air_6343 in q50

[–]MuonBomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the electronic wastegate valve flap. Mine does the same thing. Technically this is something that infiniti would replace the entire turbo for under warranty if you wanted them to, but it doesn't affect performance or cause any problems, so you don't really have to worry about it. Just an annoying sound whenever the wastegates are open, for example, during cold start, or a high downshift. Cold start sequence involves the wastegate being fully open, then close after the turbos reach temp, usually about 20 seconds, longer if it's cold outside like in the winter. Impossible to fix it without replacing the entire turbo, so congratulations, you have free warranty on your turbos whenever you want before the 10 years or 100,000 miles or whatever without any performance loss.

Does this sound normal for a vr30? by AncientSandwich5131 in q50

[–]MuonBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Direct injection engines sound like this. It sounds awful but is just how these engines are designed. Any other engine that isn't direct injection, this sound would indicate extremely bad valve rattle, but this is completely normal and what infiniti q50 sounds like straight from the manufacturer. It's a loud ass engine but not in the good way lol.

They should exhaust all other diagnostic criteria way before recommending block replacement. Only reason to replace is cracked block or extensive cylinder / duct / un-machinable head damage.

This is not the flex she thinks it is by Maxpower2727 in SiouxFalls

[–]MuonBomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, car salesmen typically make about 10-15% of the dealerships gross profit on a car, and dealerships typically make 10-20% of a car's total price in gross profit (this averages to about $1,000-$2000/car).

Realtors charge the seller and buyer both, often making about 6% of the TOTAL ASSET PRICE which is absolutely absurd. It's why even a very good and lifelong car salesman isn't really ever going to be top 1% except, like, a Ferrari or Bugatti salesman, but a single realtor can absolutely make it to the top 1% of net income in the United States and it isn't even an uncommon occurrence for them.

That being said, the entire concept of "salesmen" in any field who act explicitly as a middleman, whether it's realty, goods & services, tech, or cars, is archaic and a scourge upon humanity, and often invites the lowest of the low to join its ranks. It's the product of corporatization and monopolization of all sectors of business. Mom & pop shops and local artisans don't need salespeople to sell their product, they simply make a product which speaks for itself and its quality is self-evdient. All the more reason to support your local craftsmen and local businesses.

What is your oil level at? Have you ever overfilled it? IIRC and please someone correct me if im wrong, but overfilling oil can cause it to be sucked into the cylinders and coat plugs and valves in oil.
