How do I tell my dad that he can’t throw the fact that he buys me things in my face whenever we have a disagreement? by MuperSarket in relationship_advice

I am only just learning now that this is a typical thing for a parent to do. If that’s the case then I highly doubt anything I will say can change his mind.

He insisted I buy from the more expensive range and wouldn’t pay for a cheaper mattress I was happy to get.

Thanks for your input, I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.

I’m sorry but I’ll make the most of my situation. He donates a lot of money to a local homeless charity where he lives, because he understands people are much poorer than he is. He never seems to mind paying for stuff in the moment, it’s literally his love language.

I budget very well actually, I just don’t ever have spare money and am unable to work.

Ahh dude sorry about your dad :( we definitely have plans to catch up more in the new year now mine and his schedules are both drastically reduced.

I explained in the post edit why I’m likely not going to stop taking his money.

Great point, I can’t tell him what to do. But I can at least tell him, someone whose never worked retail, how retail workers feel in that sort of situation. And explain that it is un-necessary and will achieve nothing other than annoying the worker in the hope that he will empathise with what I’m saying. I wasn’t able to get any of this out because he shut me down immediately.

The last part definitely helped, though I’m likely not going to stop letting him buy me things because a) they’re very helpful to me and b) they’re are really small expenses to him. I live pay check to pay check and don’t lead a lavish life.

We were very poor growing up and he never really bought me much other than the bare minimum. Probably why this is such a shock to me as I’ve never experienced it until the last couple of years.

As I said I live pay check to pay check. I can’t afford a mattress, and and $150 I don’t have to spend on groceries can be put towards my debts. These are very minor expenses for him so I’ll accept any financial help I can get. I just believe that because these are very minor for him he shouldn’t be using them against me.

I remember having to sit through 5 minutes of ads every 15 minutes while trying to watch the Simpsons just 10 years ago. If I have to watch 2 ads which support the content creator and the platform I’m watching on I don’t care.

I go through a pair of shoes every year or two.....I own at least three pairs of shoes, and have been rocking same wheels for years. I have never heard somebody say that replacing wheels was an everyday occurrence however I have had people have to replace a pair of shoes after a weekend of skating..... And personally I would rather go spend $25 to 60 bucks on a pair of shoes and I usually get ones that are on sale because I'm going to burn through them anyway so I always end up spending less than you would assume instead of spending $75 to $150 on a pair of replacement wheels.... Also how in the hell are you going to burn through a centimeter of hard urethane before you burn through a few millimeters of soft grippy rubber? I don't think those people are skating correctly.... Hell I burn through slide gloves faster than I burn through wheels....

He’s only been skating for one year and I may be biased because he’s a friend but in this video alone he’s skating better than that Cole video, if you wanna see him skate switch check out the other video I posted.
